John Carpenter III is an idiot to the nth degree!?!
by Historian (not verified) on Sun Feb 17, 2008 10:57 AM PSTGeorge Washington (February 22, 1732[1][2][3] – December 14, 1799) was the first President of the United States, (1789–1797),[4] after leading the Continental Army to victory over the Kingdom of Great Britain in the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783).
Washington was chosen to be the commander-in-chief of the American revolutionary forces in 1775. The following year, he forced the British out of Boston, but was defeated when he lost New York City later that year. He revived the patriot cause, however, by crossing the Delaware River in New Jersey and defeating the surprised enemy units. As a result of his strategy, Revolutionary forces captured the two main British combat armies — Saratoga and Yorktown. Negotiating with Congress, the colonial states, and French allies, he held together a tenuous army and a fragile nation amid the threats of disintegration and failure. Following the end of the war in 1783, Washington retired to his plantation on Mount Vernon.
Alarmed in the late 1780s at the many weaknesses of the new nation under the Articles of Confederation, he presided over the Philadelphia Convention that drafted the United States Constitution in 1787. Washington became President of the United States in 1789 and established many of the customs and usages of the new government's executive department. He sought to create a great nation capable of surviving in a world torn asunder by war between Britain and France. His Proclamation of Neutrality of 1793 provided a basis for avoiding any involvement in foreign conflicts. He supported plans to build a strong central government by funding the national debt, implementing an effective tax system, and creating a national bank. Washington avoided the temptation of war and began a decade of peace with Britain via the Jay Treaty in 1795; he used his prestige to get it ratified over intense opposition from the Jeffersonians. Although never officially joining the Federalist Party, he supported its programs and was its inspirational leader. Washington's farewell address was a primer on republican virtue and a stern warning against involvement in foreign wars.
Washington is seen as a symbol of the United States and republicanism in practice.[5] His devotion to civic virtue made him an exemplary figure among early American politicians.[5][6] Washington died in 1799, and in his funeral oration, Henry Lee said that of all Americans, he was "first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen." Washington has been consistently ranked by scholars as one of the greatest U.S. Presidents.
Khomeini'e modar-jendeh was a Kooni Talabeh who was handed in a functioning country on a silver plate by his masters! He turned that country into pariah state!

by sick of islamists (not verified) on Sun Feb 17, 2008 08:58 AM PSTAnyone who claims Islamic culture is indegenous to Iran is a big fat liar. Stop being slaves to arabs. Your Arab masters hate your guts and see you as their slave Safavids. When are you going to give up this Slave mentality?
Iran was a vanguard in democractic ideas. One can argue that all democracies were inspired by Iran and the Iranian culture.
Democracy is not a "Western" idea; only to retarded arabzadeh. Read the book by Abbas Milani: "Lost Wisdoms"
//www.amazon.com/Lost-Wisdom-Rethinking-Moder...
Book Description
In the essays collected here, Abbas Milani uses an impressive array of cross-disciplinary Western and Iranian theories and texts to investigate the crucial question of modernity in Iran today. He offers a wealth of new insights into the thousand-year-old conflict in Iran between the search for modernity and the forces of religious obscurantism. The essays trace the roots of Shiite Islamic fundamentalism and offer illuminating accounts of the work of Iranian intellectuals—both men and women—and their artistic movements as they struggle to find a new path toward a genuine modernity in Iran that is congruent with Iran’s rich cultural heritage.
Lost Wisdom: Rethinking Modernity in Iran challenges the hitherto accepted theory that modernity and its related concepts of democracy and freedom are Western in essence. It also demonstrates that Iran and the West have more that brings them together than separates them in their search for such modern ideals as rationalism, the rule of law, and democracy.
These essays will reward the scholar and the general reader alike, and will go far toward explaining the enigma that is Iran today.
From the Publisher
"Milani shows that long before the European Renaissance generated the radical ideas that eventually reshaped Europe and the United States, Persian statesmen, artists, and intellectuals had formulated ideas that strikingly anticipate those of modernity.… Lost Wisdom is not only a powerful work of historical analysis; it is also a moving and eloquent account of a series of remarkable individuals, depicted with rare sensitivity and precision."—Stephen Greenblatt, Harvard University

so what? What can we do to
by Use Your Illusion (not verified) on Sun Feb 17, 2008 12:08 AM PSTso what? What can we do to create a new Iran? I left my country couple of years ago. There is no home here, and nothing back in the mother land. We have criticized many people for what has become of Iran. So now what? Everyone is cursing someone and praising the other. What good can this bring to us. It's as if we Iranian are all living a life of illusion. We don't know what we want. Sometimes I think the word "freedom" for us Iranians has no meaning but to be able to drink, have party, and listen to Western music. Nothing wrong with that, but is it freedom? All i care is when will I be able to go back home, have a normal life, do something for my country, and be proud? My own country and its people did nothing for me and never let me do anything for them.
I LOVE IMAM~
by Imam Khomeini = I LOVE YOU~ (not verified) on Sat Feb 16, 2008 11:32 PM PSTImam Jan e aziz, I love the fact that your enemies are so pathethic. they are ignorant and unremorsefuly racist. they talk crap on islam being a foreign culture, yet they have no problem with western culture. as if western culture is somehow indigenous to iran. these people who hate you and curse you have so many complexes and problems that they use you as a scapegoat. you are the man that milions came to see at beheshte zahra on 12 bahman in 1979. you are also the same man where TWICE as many people came to your funeral. you are the man that when you declared jihad the entire nation rised up and went to the frontlines to defend the country and religion. you are the man that gave iran its self-respect back. you are the man that showed us our true goal in life is not this material world. that we should not worship ourselves. you showed us a higher liberation. a higher goal. and for this we thank you. we will NEVER EVER betray your movement.
I'm not speaking on the
by Abadani (the other one) (not verified) on Sat Feb 16, 2008 10:38 PM PSTI'm not speaking on the topic of this thread.
I wrote two comments under the name of Ababani under the "Save Persian" thread earlier today. Reading comments here, another person by the name of Abadani participated in a discussion in this thread.
Now, as for a very pathetic comment that I just noticed and read here, quote
"ABADANI!!!! The name explains it all. You fucking malakh khore arab."
To whoever wrote this, Abadanis are Iranian and have been Iranian even before your great great great great X 500 grandparents were born.
Also, if most Abadanis aren't of an Arabic ethnicity, or most are from an Arabic ethnicity, makes no difference at all.
To be make such racist remarks against any people is also wrong.
You should be ashamed of yourself for trying to hurt any person based on their ethnicity or race. That was disgusting.
Also, I'm not from Abadan (and it makes absolutely no difference if I were, or weren't).
I hope you will think about it and will change your attitude for the better.
Understand Each Other!
by Concerned Iranian (not verified) on Sat Feb 16, 2008 09:38 PM PSTWe need to realize that EVERYONE is frustrated and upset about what happened in 1979. Remember A Khomeini would have come in any event. Given the circumstances that the Shah had created (don't forget hindsight is 20/20, but he was a dictator), people would have coalesced around someone. Unfirtunately for Iran, the only person who clearly saw this opportunity and grabbed it was Khomeini. Also, unfirtunately the people were extremely naive culturally and politically and simply latched on the first person who said "I can give you freedom." What the people did not realize (and many still do not know) was that the words of Mr. Khomeini stemmed from Islamic expediency (Maslahat), which means a true Moslem could say just about anything if it can further the goals of Islam. By the way, this theory is not unique to Moslems, other religions and groups use it too. It has been utilized by many other Iranian groups, including many anti-IRI groups, i.e., some in Mojahedeen e Khalgh and others. So, for those who praise and for those who curse the man who permananetly changed every Iranian's life, I would say: He was an Iranian product and we have to own up to our own deeds.

God Bless Imam Khomeini
by Imam K (not verified) on Sat Feb 16, 2008 08:50 PM PSTImam Khomeini was the GREATEST Iranian to ever live. Just read what Hoder had to say about him:
//i.hoder.com/archives/2007/06/070606_016090....
Imam got rid of the tool and puppet Shah, and his colonial master America. He brought independence to a nation yearning for it. He gave people a government based on their culture, values, and beliefs, unlike these westophilia elitists which invaded our culture from Paris. Imam gave hope and aspiration to the billion muslims worldwide. And today we see all of them rising up and getting rid of their puppets as well. Notice the one movement inspired by Imam Khomeini was able to take on the ruthless Zionist army in 33 day war last summer (yes Hizbollah), while the entire arab world got shit*ted on by that same army 40 years earlier. A small Shia guerilla movement inspired by Khomeini was able to take on the army from hell which has the backing of the worlds superpower. Do you people not see the POWER in such a man and his movement. Imam Khomeini has made Iran self-sufficient in everyway and his legacy lives on forever. May God Bless his heavenly soul and curse his enemies.

by Really? (not verified) on Sat Feb 16, 2008 04:45 PM PSTdear Abadani: I agree. There is no need to blame or revel in vitriolic. However, we do need to review and examine the past so we will not repeat it again. We're all responsible and should be held accountable for everything that has happened and will happen to us. A giant step toward owning our accountability is to first recognize it and second, analyze, discuss, dissect, write essays and books, learn all the details and so on to teach the future generations.
We should try to learn from the West. There are still books being written about variety of men and women who influnced the world in one way or another. For example, there are hundreds of books about Lincoln and all are written in different time periods and from different perspective; each one with fresh perspectives providing new information and new insight to the man's character and life.
Dear "Really?" & Tell it like...
by Abadani (not verified) on Sat Feb 16, 2008 04:32 PM PSTI am not related to Khomeini. But if I tell you that as an aviator I have fought six years of my life to defend beautiful Iran against Iraqi aggression, does that make me Khomeini’s relative? You see my friend, just like you and others; I am mad and disgusted as hell for what happen to Iran, to our talented people. But, you can’t blame everything on one person. We are all cumulatively responsible. Truth always hurt, especially to those of us that did not give much but expect so much.
Note to “Tell it like it is”- You wrote a very unkind comment and that shows who you are. Please get help and wherever you are, try not to choose those chip words in your daily conversations. You need to consider washing your mouth with soap. You get that?
