by sina G (not verified) on Sat Oct 18, 2008 02:58 PM PDTIt's good to see that the students can raise their voices against what they don't like. Back in the old days (when I was a student in Iran), even a peaceful rally against a simple internal college dispute used to end up with SAVAK's involvement, disappearance of activists, and harsh intimidation!
Does this mean that things are any better now? Of course not, but it's not much worse either. It's unfortunate to hear exactly the same slogans after 30 years: "zendaniyeh siasi azad bayad gardad"! It takes a whole lot more before we can learn our lessons.

by Arash55 (not verified) on Sat Oct 18, 2008 02:09 PM PDTThese students are creating chaos just for the sake of chaos. Nothing more. They think that just because a politician has come into the university they HAVE to protest and chant slogans, no matter what.
They don't even know what they want, they are just throwing random slogans at Larijani; "free political prisoners", "shame on the parliament", "Yar-e dabestani-e man", if you let them go on they will also chant "marg bar shah", "ma migin shah nemikhaym nakhostvazir avaz misheh"....etc
This only shows their political immaturity and hysteria. I am by no means a supporter of such childish behavior.
Nothings going on again in Shiraz
by Jamshid Niavarani (not verified) on Sat Oct 18, 2008 07:47 AM PDTDuring the Nixon Administration there were a lot of demonstartions against the Vietnam Conflict. What happened? Nixon ignored every single College student? What happened? The government remained the same. After Nixon, the US has had 6 Presidents. Freedom of Speech... including a peaceful protest is normal. It is great to see that Iran has entered the 20th century. Nothing will change in Iran with a protest. Students are in college for 4 years, then they graduate.
Anyhow, Larijani holds no power in Iran!
All the roads lead to Ayat'Allah Seyed Ali Khamenei. Until Iranians and the world wake up and understand that fact they are doomed with regards to Middle East Foreign policy.
So, What is so strange?
by ghalam-doon on Sat Oct 18, 2008 05:34 AM PDTSo what is so strange? A group of people have a peaceful
protest outside a venue where the Iranian Parliamentary speaker was about to give a speech. This kind of protest happens all over the world, except the countries where any kind of dissent is forcefully crushed. I don’t see any hooligans
here, just a bunch of people who vent their anger against the establishment.
There were people inside the hall who brought up the same issues.
Has anyone seen Bush giving a talk at a university? What kind
of reaction you think he might get. Most likely secret service will create a cordon around him before you know it and remove many protesters by force.
IRANdokht good suggestion
by Darius Kadivar on Sat Oct 18, 2008 01:57 AM PDTI fully agree. The Diapora is in a priviledged position to echo these voices to the Western Press. In absence of an efficient opposition this is the best way to help the Iranians back home. All the more that the regime can even be tempted to crush the discontent just like the Chinese authorities did in Tienanmen in 1989. So we need to be all the more supportive so that while there is time the Free world gets to know about the reality of public opinion in Iran often overlooked because of the nuclear crisis.

Slogans
by kurdish Warrior (not verified) on Fri Oct 17, 2008 11:00 PM PDTis a good start but ending it with that would have no impact on this regime...This regime won't go away with slogans. They are not dumb people and they will hold on to power with everything they have and can get hold of. There has to be more aggressive steps.
who are political prisoners?

Stuednts?, These are not students
by Hassan Vatan doost (not verified) on Fri Oct 17, 2008 08:53 PM PDTIslamic Republic of Iran MUST stand firm against such hooligans. Close the university, sort out those who want to study from those who want to disturb our progress through chaos , eliminate the Parasites, then re-open the university.

(1) Who is this "we"? Sounds like islamist speaking on behalf of presumed-mindless iranians.
(2) When? When? You had 30 years already (or should I say 1400 years?).
(3) So far we have not seen anything useful coming from inside iran except for islamist from iran who have "sh**ed" on iran for the past 30 years.
(4) I don't think you are inside iran, but an islamist relaxing in the west wanting the IRI cancer to keep growing within iran. Accessing iranian.com from within iran is prohibited. Yeah, islamists are only good at lying.
(5) If you are not an islamist relaxing in the west, I have abridge in tehran that I can sell you!

the lesson from these brave students
by IRANdokht on Fri Oct 17, 2008 02:31 PM PDTWe need to do what we can from abroad to help these brave young people get the respect and the attention that they deserve and by showing our support for them, getting the world to pay attention to them. Just like Nazanin Afshin Jam and SCE did for the child executions in Iran.
These students are not waiting for someone who's been away from the country for the past 30 years to come and save them! All they need is for their voices to be heard.
Lets spread the word, write to UN, write to EU and let the world know that our students are protesting and demanding the release of the political prisoners.
