by Anonymous Observer on Fri Oct 03, 2008 01:07 PM PDTAfshin's real name was Apshin, Afshin being the Arabized version (sorry to keep repeating this people, but it just keeps coming up!) of the name since there is no letter "P" in Arabic. Afshin was a traitor to the cause of Iranian independence. In fact, he was the one who pursued and delivered the great Zoroastrian Iranian freedom fighter Babak Korramdin to the Abbasid Caliph for execution. I doubt that he had any feelings for Persia aside from personal ambition.
Persia is Eternal.
Correct Version
by Anonymous Observer on Fri Oct 03, 2008 12:55 PM PDTActually, the correct version of the name is Zhand. Zand is the Arabized version of it since there is no "Zh" letter or sound in Arabic, but the correct version is Zhand as in Zhand Avesta.
Persia is Eternal.
How about...

after a great love of mine...
Khaydār b. Kāvūs Afshīn known by his hereditary title as Afshin (Persian: افشین, Arabized Haydar b. Kavus) was a senior general at the court of Abbasid caliphs and a son of the vassal prince of Oshrūsana in Shahristan[1]. The classical Arabic sources regard Afshin's rebellious acts as those of a protagonist of Iranian religious and imperial feeling, and as the expression of anti-Arab resentment for the loss of ancient Iranian political domination, feelings which were at this time finding a more harmless outlet on the literary level in the Shu'ubiyya movement[1].
I like your choices best!
