Jane's Defence: "This is a whole new missile," Uzi Rubin, former director of Israel's Ballistic Missile Defence Organisation, told Jane's. "Unlike other Iranian missiles, the Sajjil bears no resemblance to any North Korean, Russian, Chinese or Pakistani [missile technology]. It demonstrates a significant leap in Iran's missile capabilities. "This missile places Iran in the realm of multiple-stage missiles, which means that they are on the way to having intercontinental ballistic missile capabilities," he added >>>

Iran needs a way to defense
by Nader the Great (not verified) on Sat Nov 22, 2008 04:55 AM PSTIran needs a way to defense itself like other countries around the world. Israel has own nuclear weapon which is treating our nation and abusing human right every day and ignoring every single UN resolution. American which is the most powerful in the globe is next to our nation and killing innocent people (Iraq, Afghanistan & Pakistan). Now I am asking people who complaining IRI government and having small brain t not to see out side the box for one second look at out side the box and stop complaining about IRI government and start thinking about whole globe.

They have to spend on military
by Anonymous_878787 (not verified) on Sat Nov 22, 2008 01:07 AM PSTFirst of all Iran has a modest military spending in the region. I hate the religious government of Iran, probably even more than some other posters here, however we should use the logical side of our brains a little bit. It's true that Iran's government is based on dictatorship but missiles are not used against Iran's people (at least I hope not!) Just look at Iran's neighbors and you'll see that if Iran becomes too weak, there is a good chance that they'll attack Iran or at least will have upper hand in countless regional disputes (over border, natural resources, ...). So if you're really worried about poors in Iran, please remember that a war will make their situation many times worse, the same way that the war with Iraq did.
Also because of the budget shortage and all the freebies that government has to provide for iranian people (like cheap gasoline, electricity, ...) we shouldn't worry about overspending on military because they simply can't.
Israel mother of all wars & evil against all humanity in Mideast
by gol-dust on Fri Nov 21, 2008 08:27 PM PSTUnfortuanately the israeli and american mentality does not allow people live in peace! War and destruction of the weak is their moto! If they know they would lose only person for every 100 they kill, they would think twice! Otherwise, they would destroy whoever stands in their evil imperialst way of controlling the world! The weak is destroyed by them! What do you do against the zionist regime? Do we become like the defenseless palestinians who fought with stones for decades just to be destryed, or use mortars to defend your people? Mortars helped, not the stones!
War is hell, but they are evil regimes such as israel that you have to defend your people against! No choice! Down with evil israel that destroys the peace! Hell with mollahs!
About the name “SAJJIL”
by Velgard (not verified) on Fri Nov 21, 2008 08:10 PM PSTThe word is taken from a verse of Koran and it’s about a foreign army attacking Kaaba (Mecca). The legend says that small birds appeared in the sky caring small pebbles (SAJJIL) and dropped them on the enemy killing them.
So Sad
by Amir Nasiri (not verified) on Fri Nov 21, 2008 08:01 PM PSTThe country is on a verge of economic collapse specially when their only source of revenue (OIL) the prices are dropping like a rock from sky.
There are no other economic plan or contingency plans.
Inflation and unemployment rate are rising as that missile did in the clip.
What happened to those billions from the oil revenue when oil was at $120/barrel.
Corruption, lie, deception and embezzlement are part of the IRI regime.
We need change and we need it now.
Let the people of Iran decide if the like to have a supreme leader and a Mullah system through referendum.
We need to have a referendum in Iran that will allow the people to choose.
Interesting!
by Hajminator on Fri Nov 21, 2008 06:09 PM PSTUSSR, the second most powerful army at the time collapsed because it was out of phase. Their technologies didn’t preserve the regime from this simple rule that despotism never endures. Mullahs will also leave the place for the same reason, but what after ? Will we be dependent to Israel or US for technologies that others own naturally? We can’t afford this, Iranian society has to occupy the place it deserves in this world. Iranians have done these advances with the only energy of love for the motherland, so it has to be praised.
Sajjil means stone mixed with mud. In Arabic, 'jim' is equivalent to 'ghaf' in Persian. Singue is hence spelled Sinj. The word Sajjil is then an Arabisation of a Persian term! (very eccentric have to admit it)
I wish them success too!
by Anonym7 (not verified) on Fri Nov 21, 2008 06:04 PM PSTI don't agree with many things IRI does, but I wish Iran total success in creating solid and strong deterrence. Under no circumstance Iran should allow Israelis, U.S or any country tear Iran apart and turn it into another madhouse like Iraq or Afghanistan!

Low self esteem basically.
And Faramarz, no one is doubting the fact that the US could rape Iran in a couple of days. The point is to make a strategic deterrent that makes the rape so costly, that the US, in mind of its own precious lower part jewels, would refrain from doing so.
Yes, its 30 or some old tech, but few countries enjoy self production of such weaponry, and considering we could not even make our own RPG rounds during the Iraq war, I would call this now a huge step forward.
Its simple, the EU, US, Russia, China think oil. Develope capabilities that can hit oil refineries in the ME, and hopefully convince them that war is not a very good idea.
I'm proud of the Iranian
by SD (not verified) on Fri Nov 21, 2008 04:44 PM PSTI'm proud of the Iranian engineers and scientists who have accomplished a lot against all odds. Whether it's a 40-year old technology or not, the important point is that it's home-grown, and it's just a start. I too dislike this regime, but the technological progress of the Iranian nation is admirable and should not be mixed with politics. It's like saying I hate NASA because of Bush!

F-18 is a 30 year old technology and still dominates the Air. Next you will see a copy of this aircraft..
Militarism is what the Mullahs accused the Shah . Funny they found out they need it to keep the bad guys away.
This is report also sees Iran on the rise
//news.bbc.co.uk/2/shared/bsp/hi/pdfs/21_11_0...
also predicts Iranian would return to Iran.. Security is a good thing
even though I HATE the mullahs...
by shimimishi (not verified) on Fri Nov 21, 2008 02:10 PM PSTand Iran's current regime, I think this will keep IRAN & IRANIANS safe from "democracy bombs", no matter who is in power there, Iran is still our country and we will need NO foreigners to fight our fight...this will make those foreign countries think twice before whistling to the tune of "Bomb Iran" .
Faramarz, the "mighty"
by Ali1234 (not verified) on Fri Nov 21, 2008 01:56 PM PSTFaramarz, the "mighty" Israeli army could not even defeat the Hezbollah of Lebanon in 2006 and got its ass kicked by them. If Israel or the U.S could turn Iran into a parking lot in 30 minutes they would have done so a long time ago.
And other comments;
I am also puzzled at the reaction of Iranians abroad every time Iran achieves something!! They either ridicule and reject it, or side with the enemies to "warn" others against it. Where does this inferiority complex come from??

Sajjil missile

Can they eat missile?
This is 30 year old technology
by Faramarz_Fateh on Fri Nov 21, 2008 10:50 AM PSTA 2 or even 3 stage ground to ground rocket is 40 year old technology. Granted multi stage solid fuel rockets are about 25-30 year old technology.
Why is there such hoopla over this? Just because Israel says so?
Technology at disposal of Israel or the U.S. is such that Iran's defenses and for that matter the entire country of Iran can be made into a parking lot in matter of 30 minutes. Taking over Iran and running it in an occupation manner is a different story. But brining the Iranian military onto its knees is nothing for the U.S. or Israel.
I don't want to take away from your proud moments, and this is definitely a step forward. But please use logic as you get excited about these things. War is a baaad thing. No matter what, Iran will be on the losing end in case of war with Israel or the U.S.
I have been reading Jane's
by vaio (not verified) on Fri Nov 21, 2008 10:11 AM PSTI have been reading Jane's defence for almost 7 years now. There is a clear pattern in their reporting in regards to Iran. They tend to over exagerrate Iranian's nukes and arems achievements, Iran's involvment in Iraq, Iran's involvment in Lebanon and Hamas, etc.
I have a feeling, they are part and parcel of Military Industrial Complex.. War is money for them.
I don't believe any of their hooplas anymore. They are a highly partisan entity.
Poor Iranian

RE: Poor Iranian
by Toofantheoncesogreat (not verified) on Fri Nov 21, 2008 07:22 AM PSTOh please come on, we were the 8-11th most well armed nation in the world when we were under the Shah dictatorship, still it got overthrown. Military power never secures a dictatorship, the ignorance of the people inside the country and the unwillingness to act does. The Soviet union is another example.
This is a good advance, our country needs it. These advances are made by our people, our scientists, our universities, its not made by a mollah sitting in a basement in Qom.
You want to know what the consequences would be if we did not have such capabilities? Have a look at the pictures of dead burned civilians of Lebanon, Palestine and Iraq after US F-16 fighters dropped bombs of freedom on their heads. So please, keep your strategic mind intact. We are surrounded by foreign alien powers just itching to rape our country using any excuse. Be it a mullah, a shah, or a mossadegh in charge, the country needs good, self made, defences.
The Sejiil is nothing compared to the Kavoshgar 1 missile that was basically a Shahab 4-5 design. Iran most likely has the capability to produce intercontinental ballistic missiles. Its just a big nono in Tehran to admit it. Going over the 2000 km range line, puts Germany, France and soon the UK into the crosshair.
Destruction of humanity, freedom and peace
by poor_Iranian (not verified) on Fri Nov 21, 2008 07:05 AM PSTRegarding the comment below, let me respond please that there is nothing cool about having a despotic Islamic regime gaining dangerous military technology.
It would be commenting to a child that is holding an automatic rifle that "it is cool" to see the child with the rifle. Nothing cool about it. It is plain dangerous and fatal for all others.
The owners of the "cool" missile you are witnessing are irresponsible and out to murder anyone or any nation that does not agree with their extremist Islamic ideologies.
Try to imagine the consequenses of such military advances for a regime that oppresses it people, and imprisons freedom fighters, tortures its university students, and conducts public stoning of "adulterers".
That's cool
