Luri/Bakhtiari song!

by G. Rahmanian (not verified) on

This is a Luri/Bakhtiari song and Moshkin-Ghalam has combined two types of Luri/Bakhtiri dance with modern ballet movements to create his own version. Although as a choreographer he is entitled to the movements he has adopted, I found some of the movements too fast for the music.

The Luri/Bakhtiari dances are "Dastmaal Baazi" and "Choob Baazi," the former being a slow dance for which the music is perfect and the latter is a much faster dance and the song is not fast enough. There are faster versions of "dastmaal bazi" as well.

The movements which were taken as "martial art" movements, are indeed used in the "choob baazi" dance which could get extremely aggressive and the dancers-always men-using sticks would not hesitate to hit each other as hard as they can. They are only allowed to hit the opponent's legs bellow the knees. There is a friendly versian as well.

Nice? Yes. Innovative? I'm not so sure. Many modern ballet dancers have done similar things before.

Moshkin-Ghalam's performance would certainly make many Lurs/Bakhtiaris happy.
