Why call it Arabian, what's
by Bahram Gohari on Sat Dec 04, 2010 04:40 PM PSTWhy call it Arabian, what's wrong with calling it Iranian, do the Arabs I mean (lizard eaters) call their music Iranian?
question
by Dirty Angel on Sat Dec 04, 2010 05:41 AM PSTWhy is this called a waltz?
"What's three times worse than war?" "Three wars?"

"Arabian" ...
by alborz on Fri Dec 03, 2010 07:24 PM PST...I think, because it is essentially a Yo-Yo Ma compostion, named as such. It has been played without any Iranian musician present. Mr. Kalhor has added an Iranian touch to it but it essentially remains the same.

Kayhan has played his heart out......too bad the video is a little blurry!

Mahvash -- don't be a hypocrite
by dariushabadi on Fri Dec 03, 2010 10:40 AM PSTPersian music is heavily influenced by both Arabian, North African, and even Indian musical traditions.
Yet, if a Persian musician calls his music "Persian" you would be proud. You wouldn't ask them to call it "Eastern music" and if they would, you would be highly offended that they are somehow ashamed.
This concert is in Lebanon -- they have every right to be proud of their own musical tradition -- even if it may be influenced by Persians and other civilizations.

حالا اسمش عرب باشد و یا شرقی... اهمیتی ندارد که اینجور چیزها دیگر برای همه عادی شده است و مهم اینست که نوازنده کیست و اثر چگونه است.
Eastern Waltz
by Mahvash Shahegh on Fri Dec 03, 2010 07:23 AM PSTIt is beautiful except I wish they would not have named it Arabian but, Eastern vs. Western. Since it includes music of different countries in Asia and the Middle East!
