Today I received another petition to the UN, and was just about to sign it, when I noticed the body of the text, namely:
“We Iranian people and supporters of democracy and freedom across the world request united nations to condemn the current coup d’état, support Iranians in their efforts for a fair election and restrain from accepting Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as the next president of Iran.
We ask the world leaders to insist on security of the opposition leaders–president elect Mir Hossein Mousavi, former presidents Mohammad Khatami and Akbar Rafsanjani and the former speaker of the Parliament Mehdi Karoubi.”
I have no idea who has written this petition, but I know it has already collected over 20,000 signatures. I don’t know about you, but my primary concerrn is the safety and security of the general public. I cannot believe someone would write such a petition and forget to mention the ‘minor’ detail of mentioning all those brave souls on the streets who are putting so much on the line for the so called ‘opposition leaders’ who do not even have a decent track record.
Please make sure you read the petitions carefully before you sign them.
FYI here is the URL to the petition. See for yourself.
