TEHRAN, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) — Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast on Tuesday criticized the local media for calling French first lady, Carla Bruni, a “prostitute”.
“Insulting officials of other countries and using improper words are not endorsed by the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Mehmanparast told reporters in his weekly press briefing.
On Saturday, Iran’s Farsi language Kayhan daily stepped up its attack on Carla Bruni, the wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, by calling her a “prostitute” after she expressed her support for a woman in Iran who had been sentenced to death by stoning.
Earlier, Bruni sang a petition for the release of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani and in an open letter expressed herself and her husband’s support for her.
Iran criticizes the policies, behaviors, statements and officials of other countries and announces its opposition to their behaviors, but believes that “using insulting and improper words are not correct,” said the spokesman on Tuesday referring to Kayhan daily’s insulting words.
