TEEN LAUNCHES WEB COMMERCIALS ON JOB BOARD
Press release
(Alexandria, VA - June 5, 2001) Juniorjobs.com,
a job hunting site for teens, introduces "job clips" an innovative
recruiting technique for teen jobs on the world-wide web. The web commercials
are the creation of the 17 year old Founder of juniorjobs.com
Saied Ghaffari.
According to the Washington Business Journal, "Ghaffari's venture
into Web commercials illustrates how a technology that is increasingly
cheap and user-friendly enables teen-agers and others without much formal
training to play alongside the professionals in the Internet media world."
Ghaffari creates the "job clips" on his Apple titanium laptop
using Apple iMovie2 software. The :30 second commercials feature employers
with job openings for teens talking about why teens should work for them.
The web commercials are " informal and fun" says Ghaffari
and "allow teens to get a real sense of who their potential employers
are and get an idea about the work environment."
Local employers can pay a fee to have juniorjobs record the web commercials
for them but the idea is for the commercials to have a realistic look and
feel to them. Employers with job openings can send in a 1 minute VHS of
themselves with a direct pitch to teens.
The videos will then be edited down to :30 seconds and placed on the
job site. Currently companies such as First Virginia Banks, Inc. (advertising
part-time teller jobs) and Century Pools Management (lifeguard positions
in MD, VA and DC) have job clips on juniorjobs.com.
Juniorjobs.com currently focuses
on teen jobs in the greater Washington DC area but plans to go nationwide
soon. The job site launched in November of 2000 and currently has over
10,000 registered users and over one million hits a month.
Featured employers include Coca Cola Enterprises, Burger King, Banana
Republic, USAquatics and SunTrust Bank. So far 4,500 applications have
gone to local employers through juniorjobs.com.
The average age of the registered users in 16.5.
The site is also known for it's original teen content written by teens
for teens. 19 year old Content Editor Martina Castro says, "the ideas
for the articles on juniorjobs come from us teens and speak to issues we've
come across in our own job searches." Speaking about the new web commercials
Castro says, "the 'job clips' are an example of how teens can add
their own flavor to a regular job hunting site."
