Replying to 63 letters -- in one night

By Moe
May 30, 2002
The Iranian

I've been up for the last 5 hours straight replying to every one of the letters in your letters section of early friday morning May 24. Don't ask me why. As if that wasn't enough, I've collected all my responses and am sending them to you. Again, don't ask me why.

It's been a fun experience. I've always wanted to sound out (ie, blurb out) at the letter I was reading. And now I have. At every one of them!! Ahhhhh... I feel better now, as if I've actually accomplished something today (er, don't ask me what!). At least I'll have some juicy emails to sort through this weekend. I'm off to bed...

But before I go, some stats:

-- Messages replied to: 61
-- Messages I enjoyed replying to 58
-- First message send @12:33 am
-- Last message @ 4:07 am
-- Total time replying: 3 hours 34 minutes
-- Pee breaks: 1
-- Cigarettes smoked: 5 (sorry!)
-- Drinks consumed: Two large glasses of orange juce, one Chivas and Coke.
-- Food: 1/2 pt. baby carrots, about 10 oz. white California grapes (sour :(
-- Other things: Watched Charlie Rose (intermittently), listened to Mr. Holakooie for 2 hours (I think that 44-year-old lady SHOULD have another kid if she so badly wants to), and Iranian traditional music.
-- Replies received already: 5 (including one succinct one: "Who is Moe?" :)
-- Death threats: 0
-- Things i've learned: Never to become the editor of my own paper :)

that's a pretty superficial and self-serving reasoning.  if it wasn't so hopelessly shallow and, well, elementary (as mr. holmes would say), i would at least point out the flaws in your so-called argument.  but i shan't bother.

anywho.  yes, i have heard his majesty expressing to an american journalist (don't recall the program now) that he would like to see his daughter become the queen (ie, head) of iran.  now i know you're going to say "he only said to LIKED to see that," .... like any father wants to best/most for their kids.  If you believe that, then i guess you would believe anything anyone tells you.. right?!  come on, read a little (just a little) between the lines.  come on .... i know you can do it.  let's excercise our god-given faculties of perception and deduction.  let's not cower to our baser, sentimental sensitivities.

come down man -- an as American that you so rightfully are proud of, you should exercise a little more tolerance for the freedom of speech of others -- esp. if they are completely opposite of yours.

you make a good point about feeling for all of humanity.  but realize some tragedies have gone on longer and perhaps somehow touch a particular nerve for some people. your points are well made, if only a little too abrasive.

and as for your solution to LEAVE:  please!! that's the kind of response i would expect from the most ignorant, red-necked, and bigoted of americans.  strive to be better.

Hi Farzod jon,

very clever (some might say sneaky) of you (an Iranian male, I presume) to pass the buck to our esteemed compatriots of the opposite sex. your call for disobedience kinda reminds me of what Rosa Parks did back in the 50s when she refused to give up her bus seat to a white person.  and of course, she is a hero, as she rightly should be. All the same, i'm note sure if your contention isn't on shaky ground.  I think we pretty much agree to "random" searches when we purchase a ticket, albeit it's far from random.  But the bias needs to be proved systematically, not just by random acts of defiance.  My $0.02.

aziz, you seem to forget that the very words your beloved RP repeats are plagiarized from our first constitutional revolution which the monarchists and his grandfather so ably (and with ample aid from foreign powers) dismantled and trampled.  and so again in 1953.  you know, it is no mean feat to bash the current regime, for it has many, many faults, not the least of which is the concept of velayate-faghih.  but to equate the wrongs of the current regime with high praise for RP and what he represents (historically -- not what his spin doctors are feeding him) is making a major leap of faith.  i'm afraid it just "does not compute," in the words of Hal.

Subject: Always awake

monarchists have always been the ones awake and with real views

i'm hurt. it's 4 am and i'm still awake.  i've read all (yes, all) the letters in today's letters sections and responded to all of them (yes, all!).   there's got to be one (one!) "real" view in all the letters i've sent.  i mean, if nothing else, the laws of probability would dictate.  or do you refute them too?!

BTW: if you care to send me Amir's letter, i'd be happy to comment on it, and if you wish, to lobby JJ for its publication. (but i must warn you, i sway no more hold over him or his judgements than you, perhaps.  in facts, i'm still cross at him for not publishing a few of my own masterpieces, eh, i  mean, pieces.)

 cheers.
