    Democratic bullies

this is in response to the thursday, december 17 letter with respect to the piece which was written about us in amazon.com and later displayed in the pages of iranian.com. the letter, titled 'deep crap', was unbelievably negative in tone. we get press clips sent/e-mailed to us everyday. some are less insightful than others. we refrain from responding to them directly. but none have been as humorous and ignorant as this recent comment so we just couldn't resist. bruce bahmani writes:

Wow just what we needed, more Disco! I'm sorry, "House"!

well it may not be what YOU need. care to enlighten us with your idea of just exactly what lifts your skirt? (no pun intended).

I tried. I really tried. Maybe I'm getting old. But I just can't accept another slick-packed Iranian DJ duo as legitimate music. Sorry, Deep Dish is too predictable, from the name, right down to their black background website!

excuse us for asking, but what other 'slick-packed iranian DJ duo's' do you know of and moreover, which ones, if any, make 'legitimate' music? i don't really know how informed or qualified you are about anything remotely to do with 'legitimate' music but being unpredictable and original is how we came to land a lucrative recording contract with deconstruction (UK) and arista (USA) and enjoying the fruits of our labor in the form of a highly successful and critically acclaimed remixing/producing discography. not to mention being awarded the best international DJ award at this year's muzik magazine award ceremony in london where the likes of noel gallagher (oasis) were presenting. oh, and we also run a successful record company called yoshitoshi.

Maybe in the U.S. east coast this is considered a novelty. I have heard that east and west coast Iranians have developed somewhat differing scales of what is considered culture.

why are you bringing 'culture' into this? yes, we are iranian and yes we are proud to be iranian, but our music comes from our experiences living as we do among other second-class citizens. yes, there is a difference between east coast and west coast persians and persians living in germany, the netherlands, switzerland, etc. what are you trying to say? are you trying to express your own inadequacies as an iranian and better yet as a human being? well, let us help you get over your grief: NASLEH BAD NEEKO NAGARDAD, CHONKEH BONYADASH BAD ASST.

Here in the west coast, we have a lot of Iranian "House" DJ's. All the music sounds the same and while it makes for a fun night out with friends, I wouldn't call yet another assemblage of pre-recorded stock loops and drum machines, art.

YOU don't define art and there is no basis for a true definition of exactly what is or isn't considered to be 'art.' it's all a matter of personal taste, of which you obviously have very little. and just for your info, we don't use drum machines or stock loops. If you had done your homework before running your mouth, you would find that we are one of the few dance acts in the WORLD that construct everything from scratch. Even the loops. fadat, get your facts straight.

Get a guitar, hit the keyboard, grab the mike and let's see what you can do! But don't use a mouse, some cheap software, slap it on a $200 CD-burner and expect me to bring it into my "House"!

well, we did grab the guitar AND hit the keyboard AND grab the mike (though we soon gave it to our singer, richard morel, 'cause we definitely can't sing) and landed ourselves in various magazines around the world such as spin and many, many others; i don't know where you get off on assuming that we use 'cheap software' (cubase audio actually, so go and check the price tag if you really care) but let me give you some advice: it's not WHAT you have, it's HOW you use it. and we do have a CD burner but how that pertains to the manufacturing of our product by a major record company just don't see...

not to toot our own horns or anything but carving out a successful non-traditional music career for a couple of persian guys living in the US should amount to something no less than a terribly significant and groundbreaking feat for both ourselves and our people. i don't know what your beef with us is brotha (or sista) but that negative karma will just come back and make your life less pleasant. next time you decide to vent for personal reasons, do so in an informed, logical and civilized manner or just hit the gym and do something POSITIVE with your sad and lonely existence. see you at the top (well not YOU).
