Realistic view
By mere chance I stumbled across this web site and curiosity naturally led me to explore it further. I must admit that I am strictly amazed at the intelligently cynical level that your staff presents this magazine.
I read a few of the articles which seemed to appease a sense of honesty and understanding that is not generally found in the main stream Iranian community. The articles, obviously written by a younger free spirited group of people, are not bound by certain expected standards; literall or social. The staff is expressing their true beliefs which is more than anybody can ask for.
I am a 23-year-old Iranian kid with a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Theology, but I am more concerned with the beauty of sheer existence than I am about materialism. I hate categories, but I guess I would best be described as a traveller who has hitch-hiked the Pacific Coast from L.A. to Alaska and back.
I don't relate to other Iranians because my ideals are so extravagantly different. My mother hounds me to attend Persian parties and gatherings, but there is no desire for me to go and try to conversate with a bunch of spoiled, arrogant, pseudo-adults, driving their BMW's while talking on the cell phone and checking their pagers at the same time. The generation is lost, or maybe its just my understanding that is somehow twisted.
I lived in Iran until the age of 11 when war and religious persecutions forced my family out. I spent those years exploring the country side with my uncles and other relatives who cared more about the beauty of nature than the artificially anthropomorphic creations of man. That zeal is still with me and will forever be, maybe that is why I don't understand the Iranian drive for posing or achieving canonical doctorhood for the quest of money.
I know the history of my country from the Biblical days of Cyrus and the prophet Zoroaster, to the Sassanids and the conquest of the Arabs. Yet, somehow I am not considered a true Iranian because I simply have no desire to interact with "real" ignorant Iranians.
I send my best wishes to your organization for providing an abstract but realistic view of Persian life in the capitol of the world (L.A.). If I may be of further assistance in any regards please feel free to contact me. May there be a road.

Sincere love
I have been looking through these pages for the past few weeks and have continuously enjoyed the high quality and the wonderful variety that is offered.
I have not lived in Iran for almost 10 years. Whoever said time heals old wounds obviously never experienced "ghorbat." Being away from home has consistently become more frustrating and heart breaking.
Thank you for your "Immaculate Iraniann Collection." Your hard work and sincere love for Iran and its culture is definitely reflected through these pages.
Sincerely,
A fellow ham-vatan

Starting the day with you
I've been enjoying your music selections all morning and will be looking for several albums in the next few days. Ever since a friend sent me the email address for your magazine I've been starting my morning before work with the articles and music.
When I registered I seem to remember that there would soon be a subscription charge of $100 or $200 per year? Did I read this correctly? If it's true, I'll miss reading it, but I cannot afford THAT much on my salary for a magazine subscription.
Please let me know if what I read was true. I'd hate to lose you.
Patra Friedman
patra@asu.eduREPLY: It's not true. The magazine is free and will remain free for the foreseeable future.
Hang around
The Internet has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life, thanks in part to people like you.
I will be scanning your pages, and listening to your music as long as you hang around.
Keep at it.

Listing all religions
I think it is wonderful that you have a page with links to all the religions represented in Iran. This is a great service for people.
I enjoyed reading about Iranian Christians and Zoroastrians especially, since I don't know a lot about them.

Music access
Thanks a lot for providing us with such nice songs and such great memories. It is so heartwarming to hear one's favorite songs on the Internet, songs that one in this part of the world probably has not access to.
Please keep up good work.

Free expression
My mother is originally Iranian and I have a limited knowledge of Farsi. I am a student at Georgetown University, majoring in international affairs with hopes of entering journalism as a profession.
I have a firm belief that the only hope of fostering democracy anywhere in the world is through free expression and a free press, and for that reason I want to read THE IRANIAN.
