Rebirth

March 29, 2001
The Iranian

In the rush of the day

Amidst the silence of the night

Between the chaos of my sleep

I envisioned you

Rooted inside the earth

Filled with strength

Bound by humility

You reached for me

In your hands

I found the reflection of my past

In your eyes

I saw the map of my future

I opened my mouth

To speak of my pain

To show you my scars

To make you turn away

But my voice escaped my throat

My breath left my chest

Speaking through space

My tears took on life

Each tear was a void

Each tear was a confession

Each tear was a mistake

Each tear was regret

I listened with uncertainty

As you spoke from the heart

With every breath

I extinguished an old painful flame

Those memories that still burned my soul

Those kisses that I could not erase

That nostalgia that stole my smile

And replaced my throat with a knot

I want so much to believe your words

And take refuge in your warmth

I want to build my nest with rain

And begin the year as one

I want to escape this winter

For the golden promise of your sun

During the desperate hour of my voyage

I want to find the path to your door

What about my scars?

What about my broken wings?

When will I be whole again?

When will I dream again?

Rooted inside the earth

Filled with strength

Bound by humility

You reached for me

In your hands

I found the reflection of my past

In your eyes

I saw the map of my future

From the depth of that sunset

Your light emerged

Illuminating the darkness

That had become my home

The promise of flight

The purity of wheat

The smell of spring

And the birth of hope

The chance to begin again

On fresh earth with pregnant seeds

The vision of an infinite horizon

From the taste of jasmine on your lips

The day that you love me

Time will stop

The crowds will leave

And the night will embrace us

The day that you love me

My tattoos will wash away

My voice will return

And my hands will be warm again

The day that you love me

The ocean will take my pain

The sun will dry my last tear

And blood will flow through my chest

Amazon Honor SystemThe day that you love me

I will close my eyes

I will undress my soul and

I will exhale my fears

Drunk with dreams

Overwhelmed with desire

Like a tired traveler at the end of the journey

I will finally rest at your feet
