The greatest film ever made is "Citizen Kane," according to the British
Film Institute's international poll of film critics and directors. The 1941 Orson
Welles classic was chosen by 144 film critics and directors polled separately. Second
place honors from the critics went to Alfred Hitchcock's "Vertigo" while
the director's favored Francis Ford Coppola's "The Godfather" and "The
Godfather Part II". "Kane" director Orson Welles is seen in this 1938
portrait. ( Carl Van Vechten Photograph Collection-Library of Congress via Reuters)
