 The Washington Post reported on August 28, 2002 that high ranking al Qaeda members Saif al-Adel, seen in this undated file photo, and Mahfouz Ould Walid, who was reported dead by the Pentagon in January, have found refuge in Iran. The U.S. warned Iran against harboring terrorists after Tehran rejected the newspaper report. The Post report claimed the al Qaeda deputies are in Iran near the Afghan border along with dozens of al Qaeda fighters said to be plotting new attacks.
