A Chinese youth looks at a legendary "luminous pearl" at the Zhonghua Department
Store in the southern city of Guangzhou, July 24, 2002. The large precious stone,
referred to as a pearl in Chinese, is regarded as part of the treasure of emperors
according to legend. Chinese people believe it emitted light at night and warded
off evil. It weighs 15 kilograms and has a diameter of more than 0.2 meters. Its
estimated value is 500 million Hong Kong Dollars ($64.1 million).
