British author Salman Rushdie talks to the press at Christiansborg Castle in Copenhagen
Wednesday November 13, 1996. Rushdie arrived Wednesday to receive a literary award.
The Danish government cancelled earlier plans for a trip after security officials
had been informed of a threat to Rushdie's life. Rushdie was sentence to death by
the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini of Iran, calling his 1989 novel "The Satanic
Verses" blasphemous of Islam.
