A February 2000 file photo shows Abbas Abdi, one of the former U.S. embassy hostage-takers
and now now a leading voice for reform in the Islamic Republic, who has been jailed
by a hardline Iranian court exactly 23 years after the U.S. embassy takeover in Tehran,
November 5, 2002. Abbas Abdi's arrest, apparently related to the activities of a
polling institute he founded, heightened growing tensions between Iran's reformist
and conservative camps, prompting Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to call for
calm. REUTERS/Raheb Homavandi
