I didn't say "it", meaning the cartoon, is about an Abadani man. I've heard that a lot people in Diaspora made their way out of the country with the help of Kurdish sheep herders, knowing passages through the mountainous terrains. I provided the joke that's been told for years as a background, and then I said "my guess" is this lady crossed the border... It’s my guess. I'm not the spokesperson for the cartoonist. My understanding of the cartoon, based on the joke I heard, is that the lady is frozen in the way she escaped from Iran. I could be completely off the track, but I doubt it since the caption says “...escaped through Kurdish mountains...“. This is the nature of looking at a piece of art (yes, I do consider Saman's drawings artistic), you, as an observer, can make up your own mind.

So, if it is a joke about an Abadani man, why transpose it to a woman, knowing well the symbolic power, and sometimes subtle meaning of cartoons? Unless.... one doesn't know ..... a lot of things.

I guess not everyone has heard the joke; there was this Abadani man who wanted to escape from Iran. When he went to the border he saw that many Iranians were crossing the border by wearing sheep skins and mixing up with herds and walking to the other side. So he does the same thing, but immediately is identified and gets arrested. He asks the border guard, "all these people do the same thing and none of them is recognized, why did you catch me?" The border guard says because I've never seen a sheep wear Ray Ban sunglasses. :O)
My guess is this lady crossed the border acting like a sheep but she was so traumatized by the event that she never recovered from it.
who's the sheep?

Iranian women never think of themselves as sheep. By opposing hejab, being activists, getting killed, tortured, increasing and surpassing university acceptance exam compared to men. The men are the ones who are sheepishly following the rules and staying silent, and allowing the women to be beaten while they sheepishly watched at women's day rally. The men also sheepishly imprisoned, and killed Zahra Kazemi and coutless others. Men's sheepish silence and following of the herd, except for a few good men, allows systematic abuse of women's rights, and men's too, yeah. It is bad for women, men and the whole country.
