Dear Parviz

by Souri on

Thank you sooooooo much! Nazy is right, you are really great!!

Such a good memory? You are a gem!

I am released now. For a long while I couldn't put a name on that image and always thought that character was also played by Mr Khayatbashi. Hope we will find his name soon.

با تشکر از نازی

Parviz Forghani

Khatchatoorian also got his fame from that same show. Did i spell his name right?:) Marbooteh used to wear big ol' glasses.

Souri

Was it aghay Marbouteh?......

by Souri on

Maybe!

The name marbouteh is familiar.

That was a guy with artificial white big eyes. But he was so funny.

I was too young, don't remember it well, but always thought that he was also H. Khayatbashi..............

The Title for this

Blog ought to be:

javooni... javooni kojayi ke yadate bekheyr.. azize man amman amman...

Seems like it is going where it should not be going:)

I guess just for the hell of it we should start running a "confession" blog. We call it IC confessions as in Cab confessions. Everyone can just come on out and say what is on their mind, You know, letting it all out, putting it all out there. Ages, Sizes(hee hee) desires, wishes, thoughts, secret crushes......know what i am saying?:0

Nazaratetoon chi chies?:))

Bebin, to ham aziat nakon digeh!

I asked Parviz Forghani and sure enough, he knew the answer! He knows everything nostalgic and in all probability can walk on water, too, but this has never become necessary!

He says the name of the guy in "doostet daram, doostet daram" was Hamid Mir Motahari. That is absolutely correct!

Take a look at this very interesting and nostalgic blog post by the talented Touka Neyestani in which he talks about the Iranian television series, Mohandes Billy, Parviz Sayad, and right at the end, Hamid Mir Motahari:

//sainttouka.blogfa.com/post-157.aspx

I have really little or no memories about Amir Arsalan-e Namdar the series, but I do remember the film.

Thanks for the question and for reminding me just how old I am! The good news is that you may be older than me! Just kidding baba! We are all absolutely just the age we are supposed to be!

Faramarz

Thank You Nazy

by Faramarz on

This is really great!

It is so great to see Asghar Taragheh, Massoud Assadolahi, Morad Barghi, Mohandes Billy, Mr. Ghatebeh and others all under the same roof.

Were they joking and messing around with each other or was it all arts, painting and nostalgia?

Hoshang Targol

Ms. Kaviani, call me a bit stubborn if you will but,

by Hoshang Targol on

me thinks it was Khayat'bashi in "Dostat darm , dostat daram." Yes the character there was very serious and non-comical, the reason I still remember that show after all these years is perhaps it was such an "avant-guard" production comapred to all that other garbage on the tube ( back then).

As long as we're on the nostalgia train here, didn't Parviz Sayad also had another comdey before Okhtapos, as Amir Arsalan Namdar? Sayad is another significant figure we should appreciate more. Almost 50 years ago Al Ahmad had a review of Sayad's play in Sangalaj Theater, and he was highly impressed and thought that this young artist would be a phenomenon, Al Ahmad was right at least on this count.

P.S. I had some queries on the "group writing" but his note is getting too long, cheers

Anonymouse

Nazy jaan your first response to Vildemose (Yes, the one you showed is Hassan Khayatbashi, but not Mohandes Billy!) confused me, perhaps her clip was the culprit and I'll have to watch all these videos later!

In the next group writing I'll not succumb to temptations to write supermarket romance novel stuff!  I'll stick to the dry life of Iranians under this Islamic Republic! Others can garnish it with romantic stuff ;-)

Nazy Kaviani

Anonymouse, aziat nakon baba!

by Nazy Kaviani on

I meant to say: When he is walking around like that or singing some pop song, he is Hassan Khayatbashi. When he puts on that costume and makeup, he turns into his stage character Mohandes Billy. But yes, they are the same!

Anyway, halet chetoreh Anonymouse? Our joint story will be published soon in its entirety, edited and pretty. We are going to start a new project soon! Be there or be square!

Anonymouse

Nazy jaan I'm confused! Mohandes Billy & Khayatbashi r the same!

by Anonymouse on

Are they not?  I can't see youtube videos now but Mohandess Billy was the one with long tail tuxedos and would touch his chin and make comments.  Are there 2 Khayatbashis?  What is Mohandess Billy's real name then?

Everything is sacred

Dear Houshang

by Nazy Kaviani on

I have a vague memory of that "doostat daram, doostat daram" program. I don't think it was Khayatbashi. There was some other guy, one of those who looked like intellectuals at the time. I will ask my nostalgia buff friends Parviz Forghani and Bahram9821 who are also Iranian.com contributors.

Below is what a source says about Hassan Khayatbashi's background:

Nazy Kaviani

Hi Vildemose!

by Nazy Kaviani on

So, I don't know what happened to my comment replying to you! I must not have submitted it after all that typing!

Here are two clips for you to see:

1. A VOA interview with Hassan Khayatbashi in character, in which an excerpt of an old Mohandes Billy episode with Googoosh is shown:
//www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IJQ-ll8SIY

2. Mohandes Billy dancing with Googoosh. The fun thing about this clip is that our own Bahram9821 cleaned it up and posted it on YouTube:

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyQoQqmHDnw
Enjoy!

Yes, the one you showed is Hassan Khayatbashi, but not Mohandes Billy!

Hoshang Targol

Didn't Khayatbashi also had another TV program called:

by Hoshang Targol on

"Dostat daram, dostat daram." Yup, I'm a bit older than you thought! If my rusty memory serves me well, Khayatbashi was also the first one back then, ( and this must be at least 40 years ago) who was talking about eviornmental issues, and concerns. Is he a genuis or what? Those faces bring back so many incredibly good memeories. Yes, we 're all getting old too. It's part of the cycle, get used to it!

vildemose

Is this Hassan Khayatbashi?
