Masoud Barzin was a journalist and public-relations expert during the rule of Pahlavi II. He researched his family history for 25 years. He found out that the roots of the family went back to a powerful clan, the Qareh-Qoinlo, or the Tribe of the Black Sheep. The clan ruled parts of Iran in the 14th century but gradually lost power.
