The Poem

By Siamak Vossough

The Iranian

The next time it happens
I hope that I am coming from just having written a poem
Because I like poems more than I like fights
And when I'm coming from just having written a poem,
The fellow talking about Muslims or Middle Easterners or Iranians
Doesn't know any better.
But if I'm coming from not having written a poem for a while
It might not matter that he doesn't know any better
And it might be a matter of a fight and all that that entails.
I like poems more than I like fights
And this one here will keep me for a while
But I don't know what will happen the next time it happens
I just hope that I am coming from just having written a poem.

The Giants
War and peace and people

Piety among atheists
The whole house would seem more humble

Gentle strength
A revolutionary speaks on violence

A university acceptance
He had wanted to be a man fighting against an unjust system instead of living as part of it
