In a blink

By Amir Arasta
February 8, 2002
The Iranian

she forgets

names

....

blushes

drops the overheads

as she rushes through her big,

heavy bag

she is wrestling

with

overhead bubble and getting

defeated

blushes

again

she measures

ethics

with hands

and lips

i measure

her

with

my eyes.

in the left corner

of class

i am writing down

the numbers

on the back of

my job application

laying

in my favorite seat

everybody knows my

favorite seat

better than they

know

me

she knows i am

there

wrestling

with my

scream

she

ignores

my look

and

i stare

she ignores me

more

i blink

for a 1/10 of

a second

she is not there any more

neither am i

and ethic

smokes

between us

laying

on a dirty,

comfortable

queen size bed
