Doudee (Cured)

The Iranian

Cool, smooth, slightly sticky
against the roof of my mouth
Soft palate of coral striped with grayish white
I lift you gently, tenderly
keeping pieces intact
You release
salt water, seaweed
Smoky and fresh
I sink happily
Chewing satisfaction, comfort
knowing once again
You've come to my senses
by the ocean
from many lifetimes
