In remembrance

Kimya Sarayloo

Beneath earth's skies
on cold granite, color of night
a Lady cries.
Her heart battered.
Her eyes bruised.
She speaks to what lies beneath the stone,
asks for the impossible,
wants the improbable,
but there are no answers.
She knows
the Taken return only in remembrance.
So she puts flowers to the stone
for this memory she had known,
for all the seconds and the years
they spent together.
As the memories come alive
the Lady stands
alone
but the moments have already died
and she wonders why
she couldn't be the one to lie beneath the stone,
why she had to stay in this world alone,
and couldn't leave...
... only to return in remembrance...
