The gods are gone with the people

The god who carried a golden club

............. With a hundred knobs and blades

............. That intimidated both rider and horse,

Whose long lance had the sharpest of points,

Whose arrows flew to the farthest spots.

The goddess of waters and fertility,

............. Expansive as all the earth’s oceans,

............. Who held in her care the life-giving fluids.

She cleansed men’s semen and the milk in maids’ breasts

And granted an easy delivery.

With fine white arms she drove the four white horses

............. That drew her chariot.

The names of these gods are remembered by scholars

And their tools are half-understood curiosities

Behind the vitrines in museums.
