* Child Foundation backpacks

I have amazingly good news. The Child Foundation has teamed up with Save the Children, Direct Relief, Latter Day Saints, Brothers Brother and Mercy Corp to send a chartered 747 Jumbo Jet cargo airplane with a capacity of 100 ton, filled with Backpacks which contain immediate essentials for orphaned children of the BAM earthquake. These orphaned children are constantly on the move from one location to another until they find a permanent home, so this will be their first piece of belonging.

That's the good news. Now comes the challenging part. We only have one week to get this project done. There is a saying in Iran that is: "I had the good fortune (saadat) to be able to do good (kar-e-nik)". Well here is our chance to be lucky enough to change someone's life. Let's all rise to the occasion and do some good.

We need volunteers at the drop off locations and more importantly we need people to help by supplying the backpacks. Also, those who have access to bulk material (such as dentists with access to toothbrushes) can help us out by sending those in.

There are several drop-off locations that collect the backpacks over the weekend. Those who are not in Southern California, or are here and don't have the time, can still help in the following ways:

Ship your backpacks to Hamzaboon at the address below to arrive on or before Friday, Jan.16th: 18345 Ventura Blvd, Suite 416, Tarzana, CA 91356, 818-776-8514x212

Forward this notice to all of your friends who may be able to help, either volunteering or providing the backpacks.

Donate $40 per backpack to the Child Foundation for details.

What to do:

Buy a NEW SCHOOL BACKPACK (it is best to not buy a very fancy one, should you want to, you can spend the same dollars and buy two).

Fill the SCHOOL BACKPACK with ONLY items listed below, (1 of each)

Select GENDER: Boy or Girl

Select AGE: 3 to 16 years old

Fill up the backpack and label it appropriately (For instance, Boy 4, orGirl 7), What to include in the backpacks:Please do not add any additional items and only furnish the items listed below:

* Direct help to earthquake victims

I would like to send my condolenses to those of you who may have lost family or friends in the Bam earthquake. As time passes, I hear from more people who have lost loved ones in that tragic event.

Fortunately for me, my close family members were far enough away from the earthquake not to be affected; however, a relative of mine was. He and his family live here in the United States, but his step mother and her 4 children lived in the city of Bam. 3 of the children have perished, leaving the mother and 1 child. Their home and the store they rented out for income, their sole source of income, have been destroyed in the earthquake, and there is no insurance to cover any of the damages. They are currently relying on first aid and government provided shelter.

My father is organizing an effort to collect donations to help them rebuild their lives and have means of survival so they can cope with their loss without worrying about food and shelter. Any funds gathered will be hand delivered to the family along with help from other family members in Iran to help them get through this.

If any of you would like to make a donation, I will be very grateful to you personally, and I am sure the rest of the family will as well. You may just give me your contribution and I will make sure it gets to them.

Please make sure you specify the funds are for the earthquake in Iran.

Thank you all, and have a very happy new year.
