* Greed

I have received details about this "rumor" regarding emails service in Iran from a very well-informed, high-level, and reliable source in Iran. The situation is as follows. A lot of small ISP's have a DVB dish for direct satellite "reception" and do their "send" through bigger ISP's, including some through TCI (Telecommunication Company of Iran).

TCI has reently decided to disconnect the "send" of all those who do not get their "receive" through TCI itself, to force them to essentially switch over, pay a bundle, and use TCI services.

This act has virtually nothing to do with TCI's desire to "monitor" the lines, and everything to do with TCI once again trying to monopolize the ISP market and make a lot of money for itself. In other words, the motives are financial.

However, with the advent of fully two-way satellite dishes which do not require a telephone line for the "send" portion of the link, this effort is doomed to failure in the near future.

* A molla is a molla

As an Iranian I am absolutely amazed how Iranians could be in favor of another molla ["Iranian of the year"]. A molla is a molla whether reformist or hardliner. Let's not forget about 22 years of hardship and demoralization of the Iranian nation and destruction of national pride which was a gift from the forefathers of Khatami to the Iranian nation.

It is the outmost lack of self-respect for any Iranian to even mention the name of a molla as THE IRANIAN OF THE YEAR.

We Iranians may be proud of separating ourselves from Arabs by the beauty of our language, but unfortunately we have taken their religion more seriously than they ever did. Well, at the end of the day they have crippled us.

The Yugoslavs defeated Milosevic for a better future but we are helping our Milosevic to reform for a longer stay.

* Not me

I should be grateful if you kindly mention in your next issue that "Golestan2K" who had signed an opinion concerning the "Iranian of the year" in your bulletin of 11 April is not me. I do not know the writer and the ideas expressed over that signature are different from mine.

* Shame on you

I always thought highly of you and Iranian.com. But I am completely disgusted by your recent article: "Not without my mom" and believe that your sense of humor needs some fine tunning. You are completely out of line and honestly I did not find your article amusing at all.

What kind of journalism is this? This sounds like a childish peice of tasteless work. Couldn't you think of a better April Fool's joke? Shame on you.

I hope that you will pull this ridiculos story off your site and put in an apology article at your next circular. You should keep away from writing any more articles until you realize your foolishness in this article.

I was planning on becoming a subscriber but after this article I would not want to be even associated with the likes of you.

* Owe an apology

I am so glad that everyone is totally disgusted at you irresponsible journalism ["Not without my mom"]. You disappointed so many Iranians that were looking to you as their only source of intelligent journalism.

I believe you owe an apology to all your readers. Speaking for myself I didn't even have any desire to read your information for several days because I was not sure what kind of garbage I could see.

I thought I was the only one who wanted to be removed from your mailing list. I am proud of all my compatriots.

* Kharbozeh aab ast

Guys, you did a good job ["Not without my mom"]. these Iranians who complained are still in a Pahlavi-era state of mind . Fekr-e naan konid keh kharbozeh aab ast.

O Iranian people! Think logical not emotional -- as usual. Whether the Pahlavis were good or bad no one can change reality. So be cool and have a good new year.

* Funny, smart

"Not without my mom" was not only funny but a very smart piece. You always come up with the best ideas for your April Fools articles. Keep up the good work. By the way iranian.com looks great!

* Stay away from mothers

The only objection I have ["Not without my mom"] is making fun of someone's family member, in this case a mother, whether they are kings or beggars. That is low -- very low. You can make fun of someone's actions or aspirations but trying to say what you said under the most ridiculous banner of "freedom of speech", then nobody should mind anybody if someone walks up to them on the street and say please don't get upset I am exercising my freedom of speech and go at your mother or any of your family members.

I would like to know how many of those who would give their lives for freedom of speech will thank the intruder for spitting out the vulgarity or permit it in writing in whatever form, electronic or paper.

So I definitely side with the people who did not like your humor on the issue just because it just went out of control with introducing him being born to some one else. I am sure you wont mind if some one just randomly and because who you are now (beacuse of Iranian) make a joke which involves your mother or your daughter, you might want to ask either of them and see if they appreciate it and do emphasize the "freedom of speech" piece too and see how far it actually goes with them.

I think you've done a wonderful job with this medium and it really leaves a bad taste in many peoples mouth and mind with articles that lower the overall standard you've set since when you started this.

* Afraid of letting go

I read the emails about the April Fools joke ["Not without my mom"]. I am disappointed at Iranians in general. Seems like not only democracy has not found a home in the hearts and minds of Iranians, but most people are afraid of letting go of their conservatism.

I think your joke was great, it made me laugh, and I thought it was appropriate, especially after all that propaganda about Nim Pahlavi now becoming a hard core reformer. It was cool. Keep up the good work, and just don't worry about those "morality" gurus!

Khodadad Rezakhani

* BIKHEEYAL!

I was browsing through the letters of the people outraged by your April Fools special edition ["Not without my mom"] and I was very disappointed. Their letters were so like the oppinions of the extremists back home.

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH YOU PEOPLE!

You need to relax and loosen up. This is the problem with us Iranians: when it comes to politics we are always held back by people that are too uptigh. SO TO ALL YOU PEOPLE WHO ARE OUTRAGED I HAVE THIS TO SAY! BIKHEEYAL!

I am sure Reza Pahlavi will even have a good laugh about this too. I really would like to hear his reaction too and I will bet my last dollar on it.
