* Character assassination

Ali Afshari, the imprisoned student leader, made a televised confession last nigh, right after the nine PM news on the channel one of the Islamic Republic Broadcasting (Larijani Network).

As a coinsure of a well choreographed, self-deprecating confessional shows, I am sad to report that the producer/director, ostensibly Mr. Shariatmadari et al., still have a long way to go before becoming a master in this finely tuned craft.

It is a universally accepted fact that one can compel anyone to say whatever one wants him/her to say, given the time and the elementary techniques, including financial reward/punishment, physical "persuasion" or "therapeutic" drugs.

But, the benchmark has always been the believable body language of the subject. In another word, delivery is the maker or breaker, since it lends credence to the script. That is precisely where a talented director is set aside from the rest of the pact, and That is why a Jerry Springer gets mega bucks annually and others a puny 400 acres of land in Damavand.

Mr. Shariatmadari et al. have had over two decades of on the job training with a bottomless pool of subjects, unlimited budget and the latest that medical science has to provide. Nevertheless, their best is still lacking by far.

A prudent suggestion to the director would be to not let go of his day job at that venerable bastion of yellow journalism, Kayhan. Although, his performance there has been mediocre as well -- in the sense that whomever has been lucky enough to become the subject of his character assassination, has invariably become a national hero.

* Tears of laughter

Wow! Tears are pouring down my face. Shahin Shahin's response ["Bahram's cousin"] to Nooneh's "Bahram" was hysterically funny. I was at work when I read it and could not help myself. I'd burst out laughing but would have to eat my laughter so that others wouldn't suspect me of reading jokes on the net!!!!

Don't get me wrong. I liked the original article by Nooneh, but I liked Shahin Shahin's response too. Two different perspectives of the same situation! I think Shahin should write more funny stuff like that. Great job!

* Had me rolling

The best thing that has yet come out of all this controversy lately over the "Bahram" and "Dariush" stories was the "Bahram's cousin". LOL! This had me rolling. Cheers to its author. Well-done. Much-needed comic relief. Even British tabloids are more illuminating than "Dariush". But I don't wanna get into that as many have already written mini-dissertations on the entire topic. I love the satire pieces. This was a great addition.

* Good point smeared

Mr. Keshavarz in his letter "Bunch of chickens" raised a very valid point of view. He critisized the anti-semitic approach taken in "Ghosts of Khobar". However, he did not hesitate at generalizing Iranian-American community as: "Who the hell are you, you miserable emigrant, to talk like this about one of our best minorities in Iran?...".

I think this insulting approach of voicing your opinion, Mr. Keshavarz, is truely pathetic. Iranians are one of the most successful emigrant groups in the US. I myself am proud of my achievements. When I came to this country I had only $100 in my pocket and throughout the time I heve been here I never received any financial help from Iran primarily because I did not want any.

Just so that you would know, I and many other "miserable emigrants" in the US and around the world did our share of defending our country during the war with Iraq. I spent two precious years of my life in that stupid war.

Mr. Keshavarz depicts the general attitude of Iranians in Iran, it seems that I can not avoid generalizing either, he is a "GAAV-E NOH MAN SHEER" who provides 9 "MAN" of milk but then kicks the buck (not literally :-)). He raised a very good point and smeared it so badly that it became a chalghooz.

* Rootless Iranian migrant

The letter by Ms Yariz Kangani (I take it that Yariz is a "cool" female name) who, as her surname suggests, must be of some Mashahdi or Khorasani origin is a typical example the rootlessness of the "one-and-a-half" to "second" generation Iranians who have migrated to the West ["Embrace"]. I am not interested in the contents of her letter as it contains plenty of common knowledge high school stuff or tabloid paper headlines.

What is of notice in this letter is its message in which a misguided and rootless Iranian migrant is advocating the same rootlessness, that she is struggling with, to be by the other fellow expatriates. The point that she has completely missed, and hence her ensuing crisis of identity, is that General Marshals or Tony Balirs of this world and many of their likes have "first and foremost" obtained a thorough grasp of thier own cultural heritage and "then" developed interest in those of the aliens.

Obviously Ms Kangaloo has had no such challenge as her own knowledge of Iranian heritage is limited to Baba Karam dancing and eating Ghoemeh Sabzi (which, incidentally, contraray to her protestations, has proven to be among the healthiest dishes of with plenty of fiber and very low risk causing corononry conditions). I am not sure if Ms Kangani can recite any poetry of Ferdowsi, who comes from the same region of Iran as her parents do, or the works of Omar Khayyam (even the former president Bill Clinton resorted to Khayyam in his famous "apology address") >>> FULL TEXT

* What happened?

What happened to iranian.com? Well, I do not mean the new look. I guess we will get use to that and change is not such a bad thing, but what happened to the sports section (news) and all the news-related to the arts and movies?

What is this Kobra Khanom section? For the life of me I do not understand this kind of advice. I randomly read a few of the advices and without going to details fond them offensive and minimizing! Maybe it is me who thinks different.

Have you asked your readers about what they think of these new sections? And all the changes?

* Train travel

I have been trying to find info on traveling through Iran from Turkey to Pakistan. I would prefer to take the train across but other forms of transportation would be acceptable. I wonder if you might have such information available or be able to point me in the appropriate direction?

* God's messenger to humanity

In response to "Bahaullah schizophrenic", all prophets and founders of major religions before the Holy Prophet Muhammad have promised of a golden age when Unity, Peace and Justice will eventually rule the earth. Each religion and its followers are awaiting according to their holy texts and traditions a second coming. Jews await the "Lord of Hosts" , Zoroastrians await the coming of Shah Bahram, Christians await the Messiah and Moslems await the Qaim, (Imam Zaman). Muhammad was the "LAST" Prophet of this PROPHETIC cycle. He was the last to prophecise the coming of the promised one. It seems all humanity is awaiting This Promised ONE from God.

Bahá'u'lláh as God's Messenger to humanity for this completes a cycle of Divine Messengers to humanity Who have progressively revealed to the world principles, morals, and laws, but prophesies Himself that more Messengers will come in the future and that He is not the last. As a cure for growing moral and social disorder, He offered a vision of a united human race and laid down the steps to be taken in order to achieve this >>> FULL TEXT
