* Amanpour: pitiful sensationalism

Christiane Amanpour is virtually a legend in broadcasting. What she brought into American homes in from Bosnia was commendable, impressive, positively the very definition of fabulous. She definitely was a refreshing voice of truth, honesty, liberty and in hearing that she was part of 60 Minutes on Sundays -- the CBS 7PM news magazine program, one eagerly rushes towards the television set to see what this magnificent and rare creature has in store.

And on the evening of March 16th one found out: Rhetoric, of profoundly profane proportions. What a shocker this interview with the French President Jacques Chirac was. She painted a false portrait that every American is against France and she was insistent on this point again and again like a dog that humps your leg for no reason. Can you picture her on Chirac's leg? She definitely was foaming at the mouth for this guy.

Since when did Ms. Amanpour trade cold hard journalistic facts for pitiful acts in sensationalism based on charged skewed views of a minority even Saturday Night Live mocked just a night before? Whereas before Amanpour was the voice of truth and justice, she herein was malicious and intent on falsification of reality so as to repeatedly drive to the president of France a lame duck point about how all Americans hate you now. I‚d like to see the actual numbers behind this; What is her source for this information and why would she not let go?

Amongst her source of proof? The Senate cafeteria changing their menu from French Toast to "Freedom Toast", and also changing French Fries to "Freedom Fries". Honestly, Christiane, has raising a child made you stupid? Have you ever heard such useless idiotic dribble? What a nit wit.

What on earth happened to Ms. Amanpour? The most probable answer must have to do with the fact that she is far less the brilliant journalist of yesteryear and far more today the faithful and obedient wife of Mr. Rubin, a Jewish Cabal Hawk intent on ripping and raping the Middle East so as to fulfill Israeli national policies. What is next Mrs. Rubin, screwing your country of birth now that you are a Israeli condom douche bag?

What one saw on CBS was shameful mudslinging of bizarre proportions from a once great reporter who today is a far different breed than we knew previously. Christiane Amanpour should do us all a favor and disown the nation she is associated with, Iran.

The position of the French have a lot to do with the position of the millions of people who have taken to the streets, Mrs. Rubin; and any claims that the French provided armaments is dwarfed by the United States being on declassified National Security Archives record as arming Iraq against Iran, and even providing Iraq with military targets against Iran, even requesting military campaign to be stepped up (all available at George Washington University‚s National Security Archives declassified documents files). To mention something small while glossing over far greater sins is bizarre.

Christiane Amanpour, as you knew her ladies and gentlemen, no longer exists. She has replaced her virtuous prior nature with that of her current role as a disposable wind bag of outrageous mindless accusations and far more resembles a used Israeli sperm bag than a reporter she once was. Amanpour, the reporter, is dead.

They say marriage changes everything and they are most correct. Be careful who you marry. You might change into a used condom. Some people grow better with age, this one has gone sour and wreaks of contamination.

* Why pick on her?

Most of what you wrote in that article is probably true [Moody Rudi]. There are several TV personalities that drive me nuts like Rudi does you, not to mention all the incredibly stupid commercials. But that's TV.

Let's face it, TV is 98% crap anyway. Have you ever heard the song by Don Henley called Dirty Laundry? It tends to sum up your article on Rudi. So why single her out to pick on? How many people do you think would choose to watch some monotone, dull, boring, ugly, head deliver the news over Rudi or someone just like her?

To tell you the truth, I stumbled onto your web page because I was doing a search on Rudi. As far as I'm concerned, if I'm going to subject myself to CNN or any other news show, I just assume watch a beauty like Rudi deliver it rather than some dried up old prune. I'm not trying to defend her, I'm just saying I'll take her over most of the alternatives ANY DAY.

* Why won't Khatami resign?

We are at a junction in time where many Iranians, Especially the hombres back at home, have been dwelling upon for quite a while now. We now get the news that, as expected, Iran's constitutional watchdog, the un-elected guardian council, has rejected a bill that would curb its right to vet election candidates. A bill that had been presented to the Majlis by the one and only, his spineless eminence, Mr. President of the “Islamic Republic of Iran,” Hojatoleslam Khatami.

I am pretty sure he or none of his cadre expected that this bill would get the seal of approval from that heinous body, the Guardian Council. So it is only logical to assume that there had to have been a “plan B” thought of all along. So what that “plan B” exactly might be is any one’s guess. But based on the consistent rumors and innuendos that have been fed to the media since that bill was introduced, “The plan B” has included the pre-hinted resignation of Khatami and the mass exodus of the “reformists” from the parliament floor.

I propose to be the mother fucker if I’m wrong, but I bet you any thing that Khatami, based on his determination to uphold the melancholic constitution of the Islamic Republic, will some how explain why he won’t resign and the “reformers” in Majlis will some how justify their disgraceful continued existence in the Majlis.

* Don't need a king to cut ribbons

It seems as if Mr. Sheibani and Mihandoost have written this article [Reform or rebirth for Iran?] to shove Reza Pahlavi and the outdated monarchical system down everyone's throat and every once in a while they post it on the Iranmania site. This is the third time I have seen it on Iranmania site! How about something new to promote your cadidate for the peacock throne?

And Iranians don't need mathematical reasoning to tell them that they should go back to a system they overthrew! Get over it Mr. Sheibani and Mihandoost, the monarchy, whether constitutional or absolute, will not return to Iran. Democracy, freedom, and a true secular republican system will!

A constitutional monarchy means having a king for decoration to cut ribbons, pose for pictures, and spend a lot money -- like England's Queen Elizabeth. Iran does not need that. A despotic monarchy, like we had, is also out of the question. What we need is a true republican system with a president freely elected by the people with real power. And we will get it, sooner or later. Insha'allah.

* Pulitzer Prize?

Thanks for your article "Sunset in Golestan" where you correctly gave late kaveh Golestan credits for his lifetime achievement.

I would like to add links to some of his photographs. In order to make sure credit is given without a shadow of a doubt, I appreciate if you substantiate where did you learn that he also received a Pulitzer Prize in 1988? That year’s Pulitzer went to Scott Shaw of Odessa, Texas and Michele DuCille of Miami Herald. Pulitzer is awarded to material and photographs and literary works that are published in a daily or weekly publication in the United States.

I have heard so often that Iranians say such and such Iranian movie “was nominated for Oscar” which in reality it means “Iran also submitted a film for Oscar.” So does Ivory Coast but neither one has ever come close to be “nominated”- a huge gap in reporting. Because we have so many young and talented readers in this forum I think it’s appropriate to always substantiate the accuracy of reporting to prevent false pride.

Although Golestan’s reporting deserves many awards, I appreciate if you clarify the accuracy of his winning a Pulitzer Prize either in reporting or photography.

God bless his soul, a true loss for Iran.

Sincerely,
F. A. Ashtiani

* Tribute to his brave work

I read with grief the news about the death of Mr Golestan at iranian.com. I was wondering if it is possible for you to assemble a collection of his pictures to be displayed as a photo essay in his memory. I would be glad to watch them, as a tribute to his brave work.

* No resentments -- for their religion

Sallam Agha Reza,

I read and enjoyed your article tremendously and I share your view completely [Does that make me an anti Semite?]. I have long been critical of Israel/USA one sided policy towards Palestinians and Arabs in general, yet have no resentments towards Jews just because of their religion. Just wondering how much more killing need to take place till the whole world wakes up and put a stop to it.

* No need to imagine

In "Does that make me an anti Semite?" you wrote: "Imagine an Arab, Muslim or any other member of the destitute portion of international community occupying another land. We all remember what happened when Saddam Hussein was stupid enough to invade Kuwait. Israel has illegally occupied the Palestinian territories for over 35 years!"

There's no need to "imagine"--Syria is occupying Lebanon and very few Muslim states are complaining. The Palestinians, in fact, supported Saddam's occupation of Kuwait.

* There was and is anti-Semitism in Iran

Mr. Reza Mazaheri's essay "Does that make me an anti Semite?" raised some good points. His view that there was more anti-Semitism in Europe than the middle east is historically true. His condemnation against Israel are also correct.

His essay left a question unanswered. Was there ever antisemitism in Iran? Yes there was and is anti-Semitism in Iran. Why did Reza Khan (Reza Pahlavi I) back the Nazis in world War II? The Allies had to enter Iran and throw that bald antisemite despot out of Iran in order to restore order.

Mr. Mazaheri why did Hayman, Iran's prime minister during the Akhmenid Dynasty try to kill all the Jewish people in Hamadan? This is recorded in the Book of Esther in the Bible. The Iranians during the Zoroastrian and Islamic times had anti-Semetic peoples amongst them. Although you do not seem anti-Semetic there are a lot of Iranians who are racist against the Jewish people.

* Obsessed with what was could have been

This isn't "mathematical logic", just more typical ramblings of a generation of Iranians obsessed with what was or could have been [Reform or rebirth for Iran?].

All I can offer the writer is some sound advise: Get Over It! It's over, gone, rejected and not wanted back. Let's move on. The system may have worked wonderfully during "pre-Islamic Shahanshahi, various Post Islamic governments and the modern post 1906 constitutional Shahanshahi" but we'd like to elect ALL our leaders, symbolic or otherwise.

* Hope for a better, democratic, future

I have participated in the selection of the Iranian of the year in last three years, even last year that you got disappointed about the number of participants and complained about that in an article [No surprise?]. I have also read your above mentioned article and really appreciated it. I found only one point in the article that seemed to me was not accurate.

All your comments about that, the statistic is not a scientific one and etc is exactly correct. Even some people may have voted for several times. But you have compared the votes for Reza Pahlavi and Khatami with each other and on this basis have come to some conclusions. I believe it is not a right comparison because the statistic was not merely done to estimate the popularity of them. I had voted for Agha Jari but if the options were only Pahlavi and Khatami, I would vote Khatami.

As you have also mentioned, since the statistic is not a scientific one, it is not valid for political criticism. The statistical society does not represent the society of Iran, but as the majority of voters are from US, it can show the ideas of Iranian immigrants there. So despite that the statistic is not a scientific one, if any critique is going to be done, the out come should be this point, that the American-Iranian society, specially young generation, has become more aware about the affairs in Iran and also is more committed to real democratic procedures than its predecessors, specially those extremists, who are willing to kill or destroy anyone/thing related to the IR of Iran regime.

Those people who can not or do not want to recognize the serious conflict between the reformists and conservative fronts and for them "Akbar Ganji and Mohsen Kadivar" with "Hossein Shari-at Madari and Mohammad Taghi Mesbah Yazdi" are the same. It shows that this American-Iranian generation has chosen the right way not the Black &White one. Then we can be proud of them and hope for a better future with a democratic regime in Iran, not the dictatorships of Crown or Turban.

As a matter of fact there were not enough options to vote. I would rather choose Akbar Ganji for his sincere resistance against conservatives and despite more than three years of prison, the issue of his Manifest in the prison in last Farvardin. He was not also offered the right to visit his family during Norooz. As you know he is still kept in the cell individually and does not have the preliminary rights of a prisoner.
