Rice harvest was in full swing in August. These
pictures are from different rice fields on our trip
from Tehran to Astara, near the Azerbaijan Republic border. Once
you reach Roodbar, there's enough humidity and water to grow rice.
From
that point on, you know you're in rice country, from
the fragrance in the air. Even the smallest plots of
land are planted and the harvest is done manually.
Even though it's labor intensive, the work is done by
hand to reduce waste. The locals told me a combine
would be hard to navigate on the uneven fields this
small and it would lose a lot of the grains..Next>>>
