Dining with Death
June 23, 2006

i like where my mind goes
when i close my eyes
imagination
giving me wings to fly
last night
in his castle
beyond all mountains
i dined with Death
drinking wine from crystal goblets
sitting at the head of his table
he looked regal
serene and patient
i was shocked by his beauty
intimidated by his command
frightened and fascinated--
his gaze mesmerized me
i could not look away
i would not
i could feel the tips of his fingers
flat on the surface of the table
only millimeters from my own
his eyes watching
i could feel the pulse quicken on my neck
the air hitting my eyelashes turning cold
his gaze landing in the center of my being--
raw and unassuming
being only a gesture away from his grip
made everything solidify
each moment more valuable
more tender
more fleeing
he was silent with his words
moving time forward with his senses
my soul recognized him
we had met before
i know you've been watching me--
is this the end?
he smiled and lightly shook his head
what if i told you my business is only
that of beginnings--just beginnings!
and i smiled
i like where my mind goes
when i close my eyes
last night
in his castle beyond all mountains
i dined with Death
drinking wine from crystal goblets
