Farah Pahlavi talks about what could have prevented the revolution
Feb 7, 1999 (National Public Radio) -- Empress Farah: This week marks
the 20th anniversary of the Iranian revolution and the ousting of Mohammad
Reza Pahlavi - the Shah of Iran. For one\nlook back we spoke to Farah Pahlavi,
the only woman ever crowned queen in 2500 years of Persian history. The
Shah's widow has been in exile since 1979 and she speaks to us from her
apartment in Paris. She says she too was as surprised by the rapid turn
of events as history was. (10:00) ... Listen

* Mixed feelings
Sohail Shakeri
writes: Obviously we Iranians still have mixed feelings about the revolution
["1979
survey"]: how can a majority believe that
"that peaceful and gradual change is better in the long-run,"
and still be of the opinion that "revolutions are good if they have
good leaders"? Aren't revolutions by definition abrupt, and often
non-peaceful?
* Islam & democracy
Sohail Shakeri
writes: [Regarding the 1979

then you would realize that an Islamic Republic is very democratic and
carries all the virtues of a "democratic republic."

Times change
The late Imam (Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini) called America the 'Great
Satan' and generally rejected all ties with it, but it is obvious that such
a ruling is temporary and could change according to economic and political
