The following is a translation of an article published in the Persian
daily Nesaht in Tehran on Tuesday 24h August 1999. The article,
along with another on the topic of execution by Emadedin Baqi, led to a
huge outcry by certain politico-religious groups in Iran, culmination in
a statement by Iran's Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on September 1, denouncing
those 'who oppose the religious law of vengeance' and declaring them being
liable to death sentence. Neshat was shut down three days later.

Slanderous accusations against me are being repeated in parts of
the Iranian press and now a bounty has been put on my head by the radical
paper, Jebheh. Here is a resposnse I sent to the Tehran Times
which printed some of these alleagtions on September 2. My response was

from overseas are very rare proportionally to that of expatriate Iranian
guys getting nice-girls from Iran. This is expected because the value is

York, September 14, 1999 (Human Rights Watch) -- The head of Tehran's revolutionary
Court has announced that four as yet unnamed people have been sentenced
to death in relation to student demonstrations there last month. Human Rights
