China, Iran eye closer economic and trade ties
BEIJING (Reuters) - Chinese President Jiang Zemin and Iranian President
Mohammad Khatami vowed to boost trade and revive the Silk Road that linked
their ancient civilizations, Chinese state media said on Friday. The China
Daily quoted Khatami as telling Jiang he hoped Chinese entrepreneurs would

Oil deal with China may have hit a snag

visit to China this week, but one of Beijing's biggest investments in Iran's
oil industry appears to have hit a major snag. The result may be a blow

Oil prices up despite output boost
VIENNA, Austria (AP) -- By raising its official production ceiling by
3 percent, OPEC hopes to avoid a confrontation over high oil prices with
the United States while ensuring that it doesn't stifle long-term demand
for crude. OPEC members agreed Wednesday to boost output by 708,000 barrels
a day. It was the second time in three months that the Organization of
Petroleum Exporting Countries voted to raise its quota in an effort to

Iran: Shell awaits early production bids for Soroush/ Nowruz scheme
Middle East Economic Digest, June 23, 2000 -- Offshore engineering and
construction firms are preparing to submit bids by 10 July for the early
production package for the Soroush and Nowruz offshore oil fields. The
Royal Dutch/Shell Group, which has the $ 850 million contract for Soroush/Nowruz,

Deutsche Bank lends $550 million to Iran
TEHRAN, June 21 (AFP) - A consortium of European banks, led by Deutsche
Bank, has provided a 550-million-dollar loan to finance various petrochemical
projects in Iran, the press reported Wednesday. The loan, granted to Iran's
National Petrochemical Company (NPC), will be for various projects to be

Iran and Oman talking about joint offshore gas field
TEHRAN, June 21 (AFP) - Iran and Oman are negotiating to drill wells
together in a gasfield straddling their maritime border in the Gulf, Iran's

Iran drops deposit requirement
