Unpacking

May 21, 2006
iranian.com

We opened crates in the barn.

Shipping crates.  Crow bars.  Bales of hay,

the sun in the open bays and the summer air charged

for a storm.

My son, who did not exist

when these boxes were packed

twenty-three years ago,

helped with the heavy lifting,

shifted that nail-studded chipboard lid

as if it weighed no more

than a withered old revolution.
