KouroshS, I thought it was appropriate title
by Monda on Fri Apr 02, 2010 04:54 PM PDTOpen sexuality Was Exotic in the 50's, again it was mostly accepted in its Western style rather than home grown.
Anonymouse jan, Foroozan or Aafat were not only it!
by Monda on Fri Apr 02, 2010 04:49 PM PDTThere used to be cabaret shokoofeh no, remember? where European female cabaret dancers performed with only beads on their nipples? At least khanom Foroozan had a familiar homey sexiness about her. Since it was a muslim country, it was accepted to have naked Europeans than Iranians, to sell visual sex to its male population. But not for an Iranian woman to go anywhere near that domain. Our parents had their own issues :o)
I'm afraid you would not find an Iranian (per se) strip club but there are quite a few Iranian women performing in American strip clubs. How do I know? My cousins and I researched the topic.
GherFeshani dar Public?
by KouroshS on Fri Apr 02, 2010 03:43 PM PDTIt would be safe to say that people with moderate to strong conservative / religious family background were perhaps the only ones who did not like or approve of foroozans and their art.
NOt that there is anything wrong with this , but It is against Logic and common sense to think that any woman would deeply approve of this form of art being displayed while Hubby or kids are at hand watching. \
Monda khanoom
Regarding the topic of your paper or the concept of it, don't you think Exoticism is a rather inappropriate chosen title?
I think it was all about the thighs back then~! LOL
by Anonymouse on Fri Apr 02, 2010 02:57 PM PDTNow sexiness is supposedly being thin, actually I think being sexy or beautiful has lost any standard. Blind leading blind!
Monda jaan I think the reason our parents generatrion wouldn't "approve" this in public was because the Iranian "hollywood" at the time was pushing the laleh zar culture and some people wanted more.
As we speak are there any Iranian strip bars anywhere in the world catering to Iranian men like this one? I think this was as close as a strip bar they had at the time.
Had Prince chubby become king we'd have had Iranian strip bars by now ;-) Anyway, I like these dances from this era and these women, they are really sexxxy!
Everything is sacred.
She Was really Gorgeous huh?!
by Monda on Fri Apr 02, 2010 01:57 PM PDTI just grasp that piece now! As a kid growing up in Iran khanom Foroozan's beauty or her films were not approved by my mom or any of my female relatives. In short: ghaboolesh nadaashtan, for whatever interesting reason they had. I wrote a paper on this disapproved "sexual exoticism" of my mom's generation. I may have to dig it out for my own sake. Thanks bahram, this was great. Hope you're having a Nice new year.

Gorgeous, talented with screen charisma, that was Foroozan
by ramintork on Fri Apr 02, 2010 11:57 AM PDTShe was/is brilliant. Thanks for sharing this Bahram.
The fact that we didn't see her later means that for most of us she would be remembered as the beautiful woman that she was.
