BBC: Foreign powers should stop interfering in the case of an Iranian woman who was sentenced to death by stoning, Iran's foreign ministry has said. In Tehran, a spokesman said the case of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani "should not become a human rights issue". She is accused of murder and adultery and faces death or life in prison. The sentence has led to widespread criticism, the latest from EC President Jose Manuel Barroso, who called it "barbaric beyond words" >>>
French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner interviewed about the stoning sentence:

FYI/ Deneuve Denies Having Criticized Carla Bruni Sarkozy !
by Darius Kadivar on Wed Sep 08, 2010 04:14 PM PDTIt also surprised me given that she had signed the petition:
Soutien à Sakineh : Catherine Deneuve dément avoir critiqué Carla Bruni
I disagree This is an Opportunity that we Should Welcome
by Darius Kadivar on Wed Sep 08, 2010 03:51 PM PDTWho cares if they are sincere or not ?
Do you think the West was Anymore concerned by Human Rights in the Soviet Union or Poland before the Glasnost or before the Berlin Wall crumbled down under the very hands of the German People ?
Yet the Polish saw the opportunity of being supported by Western Democracies because it Served their Purpose: and that is to Be Identified as People as opposed to the governments which were suppressing them.
How many times were You fellows Complaining about the fact that in the West we were all being put in the same Basket as the Mullahs ?
Well Now People can put faces and names on Iranians like Sakineh and Neda !
They can see that there are people suffering out there and who need their Moral Support !
Is this a Political Tool or Pretext to Put Pressure on the Iranian Government ? Of Course it is !!
Have You Just Woken Up to the Realities of World Politics ?
Yet Between the Cynisicm and eventual political calculations or opportunisms there is something None of these politicians or diplomats can cheat on and that is their very own Public and international opinion !
Human Rights Matter to people and instrumentalizing it is always a double edged sword.
It can never be instrumentalized for long because it is often based on a Dark Reality.
And Sooner or later People including Human Rights Activists Won't let go due to their own governments shortsightedness.
Recall how much people spoke about Mandela or Human Rights Violations in South Africa to the point of nausea until finally public opinion took over irreversibly and the South African Regime had to comply,
Iran is No Exception to the rule !
As Such EVERY OPPORTUNITY To Isolate the IRI has to be seized particularly by IRanians in the Diaspora to put pressure and discredit to Shame every SOB IRI Apologist Like this Chap :
//iranian.com/main/2010/sep/masoud-shajareh
They have to know that we Iranians in the Diaspora won't Give them the Opportunity to Catch up on their breath or get away with it !
Wherever they go to whichever media they speak to we Shall Track them down and denounce them !
No Pity for Traitors !
FOR EACH HAIR THEY PULL OUT OF SAKENEH's HEAD OR ANY OTHER IRANIAN WE SHALL PULL 100 Out of Every IRI Thug We Get Our Hands on !
//www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTUDXLKI3LY
So as Far as I am concerned I Don't give a Jack How Much the West is Sincere or Not about Sakineh's Case,
I will Support every and Any Global Non Military Effort to Isolate and Bad Mouth the IRI in the International Public Opinion !
And The More the Merrier !
//www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-LmromTu-I
France has it's own Interests in mind that is Very Natural and Logical for any independant nation... We Have OURS !
It happens that on this case they coincide !
The Day We Get our Country Back we will also be looking at Our Priorities and interests FIRST !.
In the meantime We Should Sieze EVERY Opportunity that Serves OUR Short Term and Long Term Interests !
In Poltics You NEVER Have Friends You ONLY Have Allies !
SO GROW UP !
Dont play cheap politics with this poor woman's life........
by Roozbeh_Gilani on Wed Sep 08, 2010 03:16 PM PDTJust because the french government allegedly made a deal with Iranian regime over Bakhtiar's killer, or Western governments (again allegedly) brought Islamist regime to power, it is no excuse for some to scream foul from the comfort of their armchairs in their western homes, the moment prominent European leaders are demanding the release of this poor woman from captivity of Islamist regime and certain death.
مرگ بر حکومت نا مشروع اوباش و اراذل اسلامی در ايران

The IRI are comedians, really. Don't you know? They are effectively saying to the international community, "we have a right to violate human rights and engage in barbaric acts such stoning. How dare you criticize us?"
That said, yes, it is true that Western governments and agendas have used human rights gratuitously and for their own less than altruistic purposes. Yes, they used the human rights card against the Shah and destabilized Iran and brought the Khomeinists to power because they were worried about an ascendent Iran that would eventually tilt the balance of power away from the Anglo-European axis. But that these interests and governments have done this, which they have, does not change the fact that the deranged regime in Iran is a human rights violater of the worst sort and that this case is a HR violation.

STAY ALERT IRANIANS : Human Rights Facade IS Crocodile Tears .
by AlexInFlorida on Wed Sep 08, 2010 03:00 PM PDTWhat A Joke that Ashtianis case is about Human Rights.
If the West cared about human rights would they have supported Khomeini and his creation of the modern Islamic Republic of Iran against the people of Irans Shah?
What happened to human rights when innocent officers and pilotswho harmed no one were hung one by one?
What about Europes friend and Irans prime minister Hoveyda, if Europe cared so much about human rights surely they could have passed a resolution to save Hoveyda, he might have prevented khomeinis thugs from holding power tyrannically for so many years, with no negative comments from the west!!!!!!!!
Human Rights is used to solidify moral support from their own western people (who are manipulatable like most of us) against Iran,
So it has absolutely nothing to do with human rights.
The real need is to solidify support, to be able to one day exercise peoples solidarity power against the IRI as it stands, in order to enslave Iranians with another western backed Mullah, while stealing its oil for pennies.
How can one doubt the sheer love and kindness of ms Sarkozy, she has so extensively focussed on the plight of the Iranian women and each and every single one of the thousands of women that have been stoned. Yeah right!
In a sense the Islamic Republic calling her a whore, really paid her a compliment, considering she is factually a perpetrator of injustice of humiliation, tyranny, theft and deceit.
She doesn't give a real damn about Irans Nedas. Only we Iranians care, we'll only some of us.

by MOOSIRvaPIAZ on Wed Sep 08, 2010 06:50 AM PDTWhy focus on this particular case? Why now? There have been many more cases and the world completely ignored them. I smell the stink of politics.
Not so fast...
by Parham on Wed Sep 08, 2010 06:35 AM PDTThese are the same people who liberated Bakhtiar's assassin and have been dealing beneath the table with the IR for ages.
This Sakineh Ashtiani campaign has more of an internal use for Sarkozy et al. in France for those who don't know --there's a lot of self-promotion in there-- but it does have the added benefit of putting pressure on the IR in this case.
My opinion.
good but why
by MRX1 on Wed Sep 08, 2010 06:26 AM PDTwaiting thirty some years! It's not as if these barberic acts by IRI just started recently. It's been going on since 1979.
good first step
by Simorgh5555 on Wed Sep 08, 2010 01:33 AM PDTThis is an excellent example of how a publicity campaign highlighting the crimes of the Islamic Republic on a popular level can bring embarassment and political pressure on the IR. Please write to your local MP/Congressman, to your local news paper, and distribute flyers in the street or your car. Every blogger that is sent to prison, every woman lashed, every young woman or man raped in Evin prison needs to be publicised. Expose Ahamdinejad as the Stalin/Hitler of his era.
