AP — Iran's defense minister on Tuesday shrugged off a U.S. request for the return of an American spy drone captured by Iranian armed forces and instead demanded an apology from Washington. Tehran last week identified the drone as the RQ-170 Sentinel and said it was captured over the country's east. The nearly intact drone was displayed on state TV and flaunted as a victory for Iran in a complicated intelligence and technological battle with the U.S. "Their plane invaded Iran and Iranian forces reacted powerfully," said Defense Minister Gen. Ahmad Vahidi "Now, instead of offering an apology to the Iranian nation, they impudently ask for the return of the plane." >>>

Drone, bi Drone...

by hamsade ghadimi on Tue Dec 13, 2011 09:42 AM PSTas a matter of policy, they have to ask for it even if they know they won't get the drone back. whether it's the u2 plane in 1960 or rq in 2011. heck the police routinely asks criminals to turn themselves in. it could even mean as a signal for negotiations for something that iri wants.
jj also offers a plausible scenario. another possible scenario: pending on where the drone is stored (e.g., near explosive depots in a military site), another mysterious explosion could happen in iran like the couple that happened in the past months.

THey could have easily sent in their bombers from Iraq or Afghanistan and destroyed the drone...Why didn't they do that??

JJJ have you had too much peppers lately?!
by Esfand Aashena on Tue Dec 13, 2011 09:39 AM PSTIs that how this works? Ask nicely and if not given back bomb it and say we told you so! What if Iran in response sends a missile to an American camp in Afghanistan?
Besides, how long do you think it'll take Iranians to take the crucial parts out of the plane and disperse it to various locations?
The drone is already gone but this whole episode really is opening some fabulous punch lines from various Iranians and Americans who can't seem to deal with the reality and want to invent a reality that suits their views!

Obama and liberal show
by Mullahkosh on Tue Dec 13, 2011 09:28 AM PSTWhy Americans rightfully think of them as bunch of wussies, and weaklings. We all know that in less than 24 hours after Reagan's election, the hostages were home. Now, I know you conspiracy theorist like the Ayatoilet who seem to defend the muslims and Islamist Rapist far more than living up to his screen name, will go on to tell us how he knows all the inside information, and can read between the lines that there was a deal between Reagan, and the Rapists in Iran. Ok, I won't rule that out, but the Rapists knew that if they failed to deliver, Qom, and rest of their Rapist palaces would be a parking lot, and they wouldn't want to mess with that. Carter, Obama, get back to your peanut farms, or Chicago where you can talk professorial all you want. Obama's complete lack of understanding who he is facing in Iran is extremely troublesome, not just for the U.S, but for the Iranian masses as well.
Dude, what are you waiting for, give the rapists 24 hours, if they don't deliver, send the stealth bombers up, and make the IRGC look like a bunch of ragged 7th century sword wiellding force that they are...
Ask first, bomb later
by Jahanshah Javid on Tue Dec 13, 2011 09:00 AM PSTConsider this scenario:
The Americans know where the drone is being hidden or are actively searching for it in order to bomb and destroy it before the Iranian military remove/copy its sophisticated technology, or before it's sold to the Chinese or Russians.
But before taking military action, the Americans ask for the drone's return. It is an absurd request which they know will be rejected. But at least when they bomb it they can tell the world... we nicely asked first!
This would cheer up Americans for Christmas and boost Obama's chance for re-election.
US officials won't "confirm" the drone in Iran but want it back!
by Esfand Aashena on Tue Dec 13, 2011 08:31 AM PSTWant "what" back if you don't "confirm" it to begin with?! WTF?!

Time for a Petition for the Drone
by Faramarz on Tue Dec 13, 2011 07:49 AM PSTBack in the day, Etela'at daily newspaper had a section where people would post a plea for their missing family members to return home. It usually read something like, "Please return home, your loved ones are very worried about you. We love you and miss you."
Maybe we should do the same for the missing drone!
Or NIAC can start a petition and request the return of the drone as a way to start the negotiations between Obama and Rahbar.
Perhaps he needs to apologize first,
by Raoul1955 on Tue Dec 13, 2011 07:38 AM PSTAnd then beg the ayatollahs for the return! How naïve, as is any liberal!
