Only democracy can bring changes to a scoiety, only free press can build foundation for the future progress. To progress, you need freedom of thought, freedom of expression freedom to question the authorities and people who are in power, freedom to carry fire-arms, freedom to say what you want without being harressed or tortured or immprisoned. Buildings, bridges or streets and ports which are named after a dictaotr will not bring a bright future, it will only bring misery, and nothing else. All the great dictators like Mohamad Ali Shah, Rezah Shah, Mohammad-Reza Shah, Hitler, Mosselini, Ghadaffi, Romanian dictator, Stalin, Sadat, Saddam,..., they all brought misery to themselves and their countries. Freedom of thought, freedom of expression, the freedom to read and study anything one wishes, freedom to carry fire-arms are priceless gifts that can not be replaced by anything.

But it's not about killing Gaddafi. It's about not allowing those horrible tapes to be put on line. If anything, it works against them. Even if we know that those young soldiers are only that, soldiers, it still makes people doubt the NTC capacity to control things.

No, you did not misread it, any dictator in my view is a low life and Reza Shah was not different. My problem with dictators is due to their stupidity and nothing else. According to the Prime-minister Mohammad Ali Froughi when Reza Shah left Iran the people of Tehran were celebrating his being lost. Besides if he was not stupid (all dictaors are) then allied occupation of Iran would not have happend in the first place. I am in love with the free press indivitual freedom, freedom of choice and .....
I can not help it, I am in love with freedom. I know you can not understand this, and that is o.k.
Freedom is my religion.
Gaddafi and son Mutassim were most probably executed

He died from a shot to the stomach, and apparently there will be an enquiry into his (and his son's) death. The son was captured and there are photos of him having a last cigarette.

What did you guys expect?
by BacheShirazi on Fri Oct 21, 2011 11:55 AM PDTI always thought it was obvious this would be the way Gaddafi would go in the event that the rebels captured him and he didn't escape to another country. What did you expect, for the libyan rebels to act like European human rights lawyers? An angry mob caught him, and he was killed. It doesn't seem shocking at all.
A primitive society will produce primitive people. This was always going to happen if the rebels captured Gaddafi, the fact that people are surprised is kind of strange to me. Hopefully Libya can now move on and become a better country.
As a humain being, shocked
by Rea on Fri Oct 21, 2011 11:37 AM PDT..... to say the least.
Not so much by the fact they killed him (mistake but expected), but by their distribution of those horrible photos and videos. Knowing that violence feeds more violence, what purpose does it serve ?
Worse even. If there are any of his supporters left, in Libya and/or in other countries, I bet they will make good use of it.

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Fri Oct 21, 2011 05:52 AM PDTI would have liked Gadafi to be kept alive to let me know how much that crook Tony Blair personally profited from brokering contracts for foreign investors.
Right you see it is not just being "nice" to put him on trial. It is also critical in finding what really went on. What happened to all those trucks full of Gold and Dollars Khamenei sent through Turkey? Others may put revenge above money but not me. I want all that gold back. To its last bar and know who get in bed with them. I bet Blair is breathing a sigh of relief that Ghaddafi is dead. No way to implicate him now.

Seeing Gadaffi's corpse
by Simorgh5555 on Fri Oct 21, 2011 12:16 AM PDTSeeing Gadaffi's corpse being paraded on TV maybe unpalatable but it was his tyranny which brutalised people. Do not dismiss the righteous anger of the Rebels- their abger was justified in the same way Iranians will tear people like Khamenei and Ahmadinejad from limb to limb. Ideally, we would like brutal dictators such as Gadafi to be put on trial and then punished but it is not going to happen. Gadafi got the same treatment which he administered to his own people so his demise in this way should not come as a surprise to anyone. At least he was given a quick death unlike Saddam Hussein who had to endure the ignominy of being chained by his feet and hands and then be dragged into a court room while helpless to do anything as his empire came toppling down especially when his two sons were shot dead. It was better for him to die a quick death than to be taken to the gallows and be taunted by his enemies. I would have liked Gadafi to be kept alive to let me know how much that crook Tony Blair personally profited from brokering contracts for foreign investors.

Anyone who celebrates barbaric killing of anyone including a dictator is not fit. Not to be involved in building the future of Iran. We had enough killings for the next 10 generations. No more killings we are better than it. No may force us to be barbaric.
PS: Dear Mehraban I agree with you. Despite previous disagreements you are on the mark. They should have given him a way out. It was wrong and not necessary. Why do this is beyond me.

by Oon Yaroo on Thu Oct 20, 2011 02:28 PM PDTthat they are barbaric!
Irrespective of your views of Qaddafi, the transition of power from one regime to another was done in a barbaric manner. Only time will tell as to what the new regime will bring about and perform!
All in all, it is a sad day for Africa, Islam, and Middle East in general!
Also, my condolences to all the pro-Qaddafi elements of Hezbollah, ex-commies, ex-Mujaheds who were trained in Libya in the 70's!
Lastly, Regime change Bush style vs Obama style.
America incurred a lot of blood and money in the former.
The latter seems to be less costly and bloody and worked well and ws quick. Here comes the next one Syria, and the one after, IRR....

by Bavafa on Thu Oct 20, 2011 02:00 PM PDTI value the information and justice far more than the $$$ that he had stolen. But I believe even if had been captured, hardly any information would have come out. Look at Saddam and how the trail was conducted that so many of his crimes were unaccounted for.
Needless to say, looking at the demise of recent dictators, they were all backed by the West at some point. Saddam, Ghadafi, Mobarak have all been malijak of the West. It is not a matter of IF by WHEN for the rest of the dictators including our own Mullahs (both in Akhoond clothing and civilant) times come up.
I hope they get to stand a fair and public trail so their victim get their justice they deserve.
