Press TV: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad lauds the Cyrus Cylinder as the embodiment of human values and a cultural heritage for all humanity. Speaking at a ceremony held on Sunday to unveil the Cyrus Cylinder in Tehran, Ahmadinejad said the artifact has been an invaluable yardstick to evaluate the performance of politicians and rulers throughout history. The Achaemenid relic, on loan from the British Museum, will be displayed at Iran's National Museum for the first time in the past 40 years. The cylinder was escorted by a delegation headed by the British Museum keeper of the Middle East collections, John Curtis, to the exhibition site where it will be showcased for the next four months. One of the principles stipulated in the historical piece is that it repudiates war as a means to sustain one's rule, the president said. The Cylinder reads that everyone is entitled to freedom of thought and choice and all individuals should pay respect to one another, he added >>>

I did read Samsam " brilliant " response. I am actually glad to see he has distinguished between Ahmadinejad camp and the other camp in IR. This is a new developement in his political ideas along with accepting Ahmadinejad ( Mashaie ) as a " catalyst ". He still calls everyone else who doesn't share his ideology "tokhmeh quadesieh " , which i suspect brings tears of joys to your eyes when you see it.
Why are you stubbornly emphasizing your position when all evidences points to the opposite of what you are saying?

He will do a tremendous job by taking his own life and leaving a suicide note apologisng to the people of Iran that he was ever born in the first place. Ahmadinejad is not ape but a fould sub-specie of a rodent masquerading as a human.

Ahmadinejad is a goner in less than three years. But he is doing a tremendous job at changing the political and social norm in Iran. Did you rather see an akhound graduated from houze elmiyeh with a nice smile holding the cylinder or a president who is an university graduate?
Calling him an ape or stating he talks to imam zaman is not a valid arguement to oppose him. Even speculating he is afraid of the " rise of Nationalism " is another ill and weak arguement. You are talking about a president with the entire sepah as his backers.
Ahmadinejad doesn't have a problem with me or you or ordinary people in Iran. His problem are with those who are a lot stronger than your nationalistic movement in Iran.

You must be reading my mind.
Now that it has happened, this charade will bite em in the a*$ since they have no clue what they have initiated ;::)) which is a good thing. Even a fake Cyrus with Arabo-Qadessi Chaffieh is better than none.
Eventhough my position is well known yet just like you my kiaani bro I repeat what I pointed out a year & a half ago that Iran needs a kiaani catalyst (a cultural shock & awe) to inject that 1st seed of quest for self identity to the masses who have been deprived of it for 30 yrs. I even suggested to mass drop a million posters of beloved Cyrus & kaviaani drafsh inside Iran during uprising & a lotta folks including some on this thread ridiculed me. May be IRI promo folks been reading folks like us & trying to steal the show before the big kiaani tide coming ;) and dress , address & define Kiaani icons in an Arabized version but the genie is outta the box & there is no turning back now. Since there is no greater force than the force of an idea that its time has come & that idea my brother is message of Kiaan.
We just needed that first catalyst seed to question, to inquire, to search & to discover & we got it. Just think of that 15 yr old looking at Cyrus(bbhs) & asking his dad "tell me more about him & old Iran". Its going to spoil the intended fake show in the long run.
Cheers pal!!!
btw* there is a third wave of smarter cookies that is breeding under current & under radar inside Qadessi regime with folks like Mashaii & his well connected gang(unlike banni Abbass es-haalchi crowd). These are worldly half ommatie technocrats who have just realized that without kiaani glue their khallifate shall not survive so now they are introducing an ommatie Cyrus to appease to tokhmeh qadess fanatics on one side & a nation hungry for identity on the other. A juggling act nevertheless that as Iranian history has shown shall bring about the victory of kiaan at the end. So for now let em call him Al Cyrus ibn al Cambyses but time will tell.

NF: do you really think AN
by vildemose on Mon Sep 13, 2010 02:31 PM PDTNF: do you really think AN cares about Iran's pre-Islamic heritage?? He talks to Imam Mahdi for god sake? He is doing this because the regime's analyists have warned him about the rise of nationalism in Iran and the opportunistic zaloo that he is, he simply is trying to gain the upper hand and frame the issue by wrapping himself around the Cylinder or Cyrus to muddy the waters.
But true Iranians see right through his shenanigans. He does not realize that he is only exposing his ghetto mentality.
Vildemose,
by No Fear on Mon Sep 13, 2010 02:13 PM PDTWhat ahmadinejad is doing ( and has done before ) has never been encouraged or supported by the religious ruling class in Iran. Infact, they are furious about it.
Less than a month ago, Ahmadinejad first deputy minister , mashaie, talked about the " religion of Iran " in oppose to the traditional definition of Islam. And now they followed that with paying their respect to Koroush's past.
At the very least, isn't this a huge step to break the taboo of " all persian kings are bad "? Isn't this acknowledging the great pre islamic era?
Once a president OPENLY and PUBLICLY defends this pre historic past, it will be hard for any hardliners to continue with their distortion and disrespect of our great past.
Thanks AO
by divaneh on Mon Sep 13, 2010 02:03 PM PDTfor being the voice of reason. Let us all remember that AN and the rest of the IRI are also Iranians and have as much share in the glories of Cyrus as the rest of the nation. They may be evil but they are Iranians. I also hope that the arrival of the cylinder and the focus on Iran's pre Islamic history (which is far more glorious than the Islamic one) allows people to reconnect to a proud history and a culture that was far more advanced than the backward culture that replaced it.
As background information, the lending of the Cyrus cylinder, if I am correct, has been discussed for over 2 years now. As part of that deal Iranian museum has also lent a number of its artefacts to the British Museum including the Shah Abbas's famous sword for an exhibition about Safavids in the British Museum. Such exhibitions are extremely important in promoting the reach culture of Iran. The BM either way had no choice but to honour its part of the deal.
Another grotesque PR stunt
by vildemose on Mon Sep 13, 2010 01:57 PM PDTAnother grotesque PR stunt by the Islamic republic of rapists.
This is what the head butcher of IRI had to say about the Persepolis a while back. The speech was posted on ISNA but it has been removed since.
The leader of Islamic Republic of Iran, on Wednesday morning and during a gathering with Fars province’s governor and authorities declared that Persepolis or Takht-e-Jamshid is the symbol of tyranny and that it belongs to Iran’s pre Islamic Revolution’s tyrannical rulers and it’s merely a symbol of despotism of the past and it’s a throne of hatred for all true Iranian Moslems who will have to gaze upon its site!
If at any point there were any doubts about Islamic Republic’s disdain for Iranians, their culture and their heritage, this should now be adequate proof.Additionally, Khamenei said that the achievements, art and literature of Iran only came to matter after the advent of Islam and Iranians' conversion to the good religion!"
ISNA has removed the article since.
The hyprocrisy is breathtaking.

by No Fear on Mon Sep 13, 2010 01:02 PM PDTTry looking at this developement as a positive sign in Iran. As AO already mentioned, this will open more debate about Iran's glorious past.
I have said this before, support the action not the personalities. Besides, Kourosh belongs to all of us, not just a few who don't even live in Iran. The symbolic gesture of Basij and Kourosh combined together is very telling. Basij is no longer about a religious ideology that must be defended. Nationalism must go hand in hand with religion in this new outlook. Would it work? maybe yes, maybe No, but its a right step in the right direction.
