"The staff just ran out of fingers and toes," said Hossein Shariatmadari editor in chief of Kayhan newspaper. The conservative Iran newspaper with a circulation of over 5000, yesterday underestimated a crowd of hundreds of thousands gathered in Qom to mourn the death of reformist Ayatollah Hossein-Ali Montazeri. Shariatmadari says he plans to hire more staff to cover demonstrations as large as several million, meanwhile he says Kayhan will display a new banner clearly indicating its current under-estimation factor to its readers.

3 Akhonds for the price of 1
by divaneh on Wed Dec 23, 2009 07:26 AM PSTThat would be a real bargain. I however dont agree with Khaleh mosheh's choice. I don't know why she finds him attractive.
This Shariatmadari has ruined the name of that late Ayatollah

Kayhan Aquisition
by divaneh on Tue Dec 22, 2009 05:29 PM PSTDoes it mean we are going to get a naked akhond in the Kayhan's page 3 from now on?
Latest: Kayhan acquired by Rupert Murdoch
by Ari Siletz on Tue Dec 22, 2009 12:41 PM PSTSpeaking on the condition of anonymity, a top level Iranian official close to Ayatollah Khamenei has confirmed rumors that Iran's conservative daily newspaper, Kayhan, has been acquired by FOX Broadcasting Corporation in a secret merger agreement. President Ahmadinejad's office has issued a press release denying the statement. "The issue has been distorted," said a senior presidential aide in a sign of the growing rift between anonymous sources inside Iran. "This is an attempt to undermine Iran's plan to acquire FOX," he claimed.
even kayhan
by hamsade ghadimi on Tue Dec 22, 2009 08:41 AM PSTjust goes to show you that even for kayhan some lies are too big. if they were conscientious journalists, then kayhan would have to retract every one of their articles in the past 30 years.
Montazeri is still alive
by divaneh on Tue Dec 22, 2009 08:08 AM PSTDon't believe them Ari. The only day that Kayhan tells the truth is the April's fool day and that is because people assume the reverse and in this way Kayhan stays true to its Mission Statement. They have a very concise, to the point, 3 words statement "To Waste Paper".
Shortage of fingers you said :o))
by Monda on Tue Dec 22, 2009 07:41 AM PSTThis is great Ari. I'll be checking you replies to comments, humorous or not.
(btw Yesterday Guardian wrote the crowd was bigger than when Shah left, that reference was exhilarating to me, especially made by an insider.)
MPD, Kayhan's answering machine message may help.
Demonstrating for or against the IRI regime?

by HollyUSA on Mon Dec 21, 2009 11:13 PM PSTLOL These people's desperation has become quite entertaining lately. Dirooz Khorma mamnoo' bood, emrooz ham angosht kam avordand.
Thanks for posting this Ari.
Okay seriously, how much of this is fact, and how much fiction?
by Multiple Personality Disorder on Mon Dec 21, 2009 11:12 PM PSTBeccause, seriously, I can't tell the difference between what they truly say and what is a joke. Seriously, did they type in English "Kayhan: 5,000 at Montazeri funeral", or is that the joke, or is that the English translation of what is written in Farsi that is not readable. Your blog, is that a joke or real? I think it's real, no?
