Arghavn has gone as far as 4th round at the French in the past. Given the momentom, she should do well except she is going to face Venus there at the 4th this year. Here I like to track her progress at French open. As a huge Tennis fan, I would like to invite other tennis fans, who happen not to become interested in tennis because of politics but just the tennis aspect to share their thoughts on Arghvan.
Hopefully we can witness and follow her progress beyond the forth round. If she does make it past Venus, she has no major obstacle until the final against Serena/Sharapova or Henin, depending of which one of those ladies make it to the final.
But one step at a time
Go Arghavan.

I have a hard time finding when she plays
by Abarmard on Thu May 27, 2010 07:07 AM PDTSeems like I have a hard time understand when her next match is. Simply when and what time based on US Time zones (any of them)?
Thanks for all the info here.

by yolanda on Wed May 26, 2010 12:56 PM PDTAn interesting article about Aravane in New York Times:
//www.nytimes.com/2010/05/22/sports/tennis/22iht-srside.html
here is the highlights:
*******************
She assiduously avoided discussing politics or religion on Thursday. “I respect both countries,” she said. “In my heart I keep both of them and that’s what makes me who I am.”
But Rezai has not always remained apolitical. She was featured in a promotional video in Iran for President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad before the controversial presidential election last year. It was merely a quick television interview after meeting the president in Tehran and presenting him with tennis rackets. But her expression of support for Ahmadinejad, whose victory led to violent protests, has drawn virulent criticism in some Iranian circles and chat rooms.

Arghavan's game got away from her during 2nd set completely. When her accuracy is off, she gets tentative and throttles back on POWER, her best asset.
But, the first set was awesome. She hit the ball like a hammer!

You are right Aynak
by pas-e-pardeh on Tue May 25, 2010 07:35 PM PDTThank you Mr. Ari for the exact schedule. Are you really as cool as your picture suggests?
Aynak, I was also thinking about Venus' semi-final aginst Shahr Peer in Madrid. I would love to see a final anywhere between Arghavan and Shahr. In fact, if Venus hadn't squeaked by her in the semi, we would've witnessed how Arghavan welcomed the match with her Israeli opponent- and spare ourselves the discussion about Arghavan's politics after Madrid.
Best I can figure

Her next opponent is
by aynak on Tue May 25, 2010 10:08 AM PDTKerber of Germany (ranked 64). Kerber won her last match in 3 hard sets that lasted over 2 hours. Her serve is not a weapon so Arghavan should beat her without much problem.
In the 3rd Arghavan will meeet either Szavay or Petrova who has been rahter hot as of late. My guess would be Arghavane vs Petrova in the 3rd.
That would be very interesting to watch and by then the field has shrunk into 32 so hopefully better TV coverage.
One interesting fact about Madrid open which Arghavan, won:
In the Semi's Venus played against Shahr Peer of Israel. Had Peer won that game, the finals would have been between Peer and Arghavan. (Just thought I throw that bit of trivia in there).
Thanks for the information
