Last night...

by Azarin Sadegh on

Last night was one of the happiest times of my life: the Hammer was packed; my reading went smoothly (except for a few of my newly cut sexy bangs which kept falling in front of my eyes, and I guess everyone rooted for me to keep them away while reading my suicide scene;) every EV fellow's work was spectacular; after the reading many strangers came to me, telling me that they loved my piece; we let loose at the end of the evening, ate delicious goodies, drank champagne, and took crazy photos, and on the ride back home, I felt this bitter sweet feeling... sad and happy at the same time.

This fellowship is one of my most important achievements…the best thing that has happened to me as a writer. I learned a lot through our master classes with an incredible teacher, Ellen Sleazak, and the one-to-one mentorship, and especially our weekly author evenings, meeting authors at their home, poets and writers such as Janet Fitch, Aimee Bender, Gabrielle Calvocoressi, Bernard Cooper, Samantha Dunn, Graham Moore, Dinah Lenny, David Ulin,...and editors of Granta and Slake and a few great publishers and agents. We were totally pampered, but also the intensity of the program helped us to become better writers.

If you are a poet or a writer, and you haven’t yet been published, then this program is for you! You have nothing to lose...Believe me! You won't regret it!

Thanks again, my dear IC friends, for always being so kind and so generous in your comments. Even though (true for most of us) we have never met each other in the real world, but I truly feel this warm connection with you, and I feel so grateful for being part of Iranian.com's family.

Love you all, Azarin

Multiple Personality Disorder

Fortunately I can not make it

by Multiple Personality Disorder on

First of all, today I have to give blood, then urine, and then I have to travel to my office in another town, and after that I have to go on a field trip three hours farther away from your town, and stay there the rest of the night and into the morning, so fortunately for me I can not make it to your final reading, otherwise I would have, because as you know, I think you are the best.

You're the best!

by Azarin Sadegh on

Thank you so much, my dear friends, for your words of support and all your lovely wishes! Me too, I feel the same and I wish you were there, but hopefully, there would be other occasions where we could just hang out in person.

Even though, I should be nervous by the prospect of sharing my writing with so many people, but strangely, it seems that I am getting more and more excited. Of course working with a speech coach helped a lot..:-)

Writing is a lonely act! No matter how much we (the EV fellows) were pampered by the fellowship, but at the end, we still had to isolate ourselves, sit in front of a blank page, and do our best to write something meaningful. I can't thank PEN USA, and you my dear friends, enough, since you let me overcome this fear, while staring at that blank page!

Thanks again, Azarin

Best wishes for a successful reading and a great writing career following the end of your year of hard work. I am so happy for you Azarin. I wish I could be there, but my plate is so full right now. I have seen you before, during, and after a reading and you are a joy throughout. Best of luck to our very own "Emerging Voice!"
