While it might seem less important than the events in Iran or the Mid-East, one bright spot in my local Bay Area politics, has always been the doings and goings on of Ross Mirkarimi (D).
I'm not sure if watching Ross is some sort of mind warp flash forward to what our own future political activism could look like, were we to ever get the actual chance at it. But it is certainly a lot of fun watching someone like Ross work out his obvious destiny right before our eyes.
Last week Ross announced his bid to leave the San Francisco Board of Supervisors where he has been a distinctive leader and presence for the past 5 years, before that as an investigator for the city's District Attorney's office.
His next post? None other than a run for the Sheriff of San Francisco! Yes, I said Sheriff! San Francisco being both a city and a county, has a Police Department and a Sheriff's Department.
The election is this coming November, and Ross will be trying to win this important post even though the current Sheriff Michael Hennessey has declared he will not be running again, after 31 years in the post.
While those of us who have watched Ross with pride and had aspirations of the Mayor's office for him, in fact, this direction makes a lot of sense for Ross personally, because of his longtime interest in law enforcement, his stint at the City's DA's office, and before that, graduating from the San Francisco Police Academy.
We will continue to watch Ross with great interest as he embarks on this next journey, and wish him well as he soars to even greater heights!
Your Iranian "Posse" is here and ever the ready Ross!
