Philosopher my foot! Sociologist my !
by Anonymous irani (not verified) on Thu Jun 19, 2008 07:04 PM PDTWhat culture? The culture that this guy is preaching is what we see everyday in evin. And yes I have seen his writings. He talks about a bunch of illiterate nomadic arab females, likes of zeinab and fatima of 1400 years ago, as if they were likes of Voltaire and Descartes. And following the west, is far better than, following the backward arab "philosophy" of 1400 years ago. Even islamist know that; the hypocrites always migrate to the bad-mouthed west; I am yet to see any of them migrate to their endeared mecca or Medina. Doctor Haddad adel is also considered an islamic philosopher, and we know what he stands for today that likes of him is in power!
Look at kids talking about God
by XerXes (not verified) on Thu Jun 19, 2008 06:14 PM PDTLook at you little people talking about the God of the Iranian modern social philosopher. You may disagree with his ideology, but can't put him down and disrespect him. If he was a westerner (your Ka'ba of worship) then all of you would've said "wow what an amazing thinker, only in the west..."
Learn something here, just because there is a philosopher who you may or may not agree with, doesn't degrade his ideas. What's wrong with you people, you have absolutely no culture. Bunch of savages in western clothes. Don't just wear the clothes, learn to culture yourselves.
None of you here talked about ONE ISSUE that Dr. Shariati had discussed in his book...NOT EVEN ONE. Go read and learn something, living in LA and learning to talk like your TV hosts.
He belongs to history when fools were easy to find!
by Iranian only (not verified) on Thu Jun 19, 2008 05:17 PM PDTWhat a fake fraudulent bozo he was! He thought that getting a doctorate degree and setting aside his ammameh (just like doctors yazdi and ahmadinejad and larijani and haddad-adel and ...) would give him any credibility to pose as an intellectual and preach the same old non-sense. He could attract some idealistic fools then, but no more. The islamists of various tendencies are less than 15% of iranian population today, mostly those with financial ties to the regime, islamic fanatics, or 1970s left-overs with never-ending deep hatred for the monarchy. The youth today either do not know this bozo or if they do, they do not care for likes of him; they see likes of him every day and every where as they focus on how to get a job and how to avoid arrest, imprisonment, rape, and murder by likes of this intellectual monkey.

What this thug and his ilk
by abc (not verified) on Thu Jun 19, 2008 03:01 PM PDTWhat this thug and his ilk were/are after was Islamic Revolution worldwide;that's what these thugs are after; He was an Islamist marxist. it's communism spiced with radical Islam.
Say godbye to the good ol' days of MAD - Mutual assured destruction. What else could you expect from the from the children of doom:
...One must also come to terms with the fact that supremacist puritanism in contemporary Islam is dismissive of all moral norms or ethical values, regardless of the identity of their origins or foundations. The prime and nearly singular concern is power and its symbols. Somehow, all other values are made subservient.

What a shame, he was the reason for the blood bath in Iran!
by Zeynab! (not verified) on Thu Jun 19, 2008 02:09 PM PDTHe was in love with the idea of "Ashora", but he caused our Iranian ashura, killing many Hosseins and Zeynabs.

Iranians love Shariati
by This site is not REPRESENTATIVE! (not verified) on Thu Jun 19, 2008 01:52 PM PDTIranian.com is DEFINITELY not a representaiton of Iranians. I cant believe people on this site even hate Dr. Shariati. Apparently they have no mercy for any Muslims. It's amazing. Whethere you guys like it or not Iranians are Muslim and Islam is their religion. Hate it, but its the reality and probably always will be. Iran can not be seperated from Islamic civilization, nor should it be. I think some people hate the mullahs in Iran so much, they distort the entire history of Iran, Islam, and its scholars. So sad. I lived in Iran and know that amongst the spectrum almost all Iranians love Shariati and think he was a good man.
After all, there is a reason the mullahs are pubishing his books recently, because they know how much the youth love him, and so they want to bring a lot of them back to the deen with his writings and lectures
Listen carefully!
by Anonyi (not verified) on Thu Jun 19, 2008 12:58 PM PDTThis is how islamists lied and deceived people with idealizing their backward ideology so they can get to power to do exactly as they planned for iran that we see today.
Listen carefully and you see the praise of khomeini and a patience plan for what we see today. He insults iranians for whom iran is more important than islam at the end.
He was a worthless lying fanatic backward traitor arab-parast mulla without abaa and ammameh and nothing more!
I hope he enjoys the good weather in hell in company his idols, khomeini and khalkhali.
What is maddening about this
by nmv (not verified) on Thu Jun 19, 2008 12:18 PM PDTWhat is maddening about this is that very few show any interest at all in familiarizing themselves with the jihad history (there are 1,400 years of it) and the justification for jihad in the Qur’an and ahadith.
Islam was only a truly unified state under the Caliph, but a perusal of the jihad history shows that jihad was waged without the Caliph’s approval or participation, often by provincial war lords and emirs.
This kind of Islamization/Islamists have had a long established history of many centuries, from its inception actually, of fighting as militants withing the society. Once you understand that, then your thinking gets past the current ossified templates that hamstring us and cause us to be a society at war with itself.
the biggest perpetrator
by IRANdokht on Thu Jun 19, 2008 09:53 AM PDTShariati was the reason so many of the young Iranians were brainwashed by Islam and Mojahedin. He intellectualized Islam, made it sound noble and brave... I have read his books and was impressed when I was young, even considered myself muslim for a couple of years, but grew out of that phase... some never did and some lost their lives for it. and now we're dealing with the consequences of Shariati's work: IRI and MKO
If Savak was doing a decent job, people like him would not have become so popular.

He is buried there because
by He is buried there because (not verified) on Thu Jun 19, 2008 09:53 AM PDTNice try KavehV. You guys are funny he is bured in Syria because in his will/testament he requested to be buried by Zeynab, Imam Hussein's sister who is buried in Damascus. He said because he like Zeynab wished to carry the flag of Karbala.
rage
by Anonymous_Flowers (not verified) on Thu Jun 19, 2008 09:36 AM PDTwhenever his name is mentioned to my family, they immediately cringe. this man is not great, he is partly to blame for the misery of iran today.
Shariati
by Anonymous Iranian (not verified) on Thu Jun 19, 2008 08:22 AM PDTAs someone who has read most of Dr. Shariati's works, he is one whom can be credited with the intellectualization of Islamism. He can be credited with laying the foundation of the Islamic Republic. So you say rest in peace? I'll save my peace for something more worthy.
To Ali P.
by KavehV (not verified) on Thu Jun 19, 2008 03:42 AM PDTI don't know why he is buried in Syria. But, if I had to speculate, I would say for security reasons his body was not allowed to returen to Iran. He was part of the Islamist/terrorist gang of Mostafa Chamran and with probable ties to Lebanese Amal that had Syrian protection. More important, he was the (or one of) ideological founder of the People's Mojahedine (Mojahedine Khalghe Iran). The Hezbollahis and Mojahedine (Islamic-Marxists) were allies then. MKO and elements of Lebanese Amal were the fuse that ignited mullahs and the Shia Islamists in Iran.
Of all the places...
by Ali P. on Thu Jun 19, 2008 03:10 AM PDTWhy is he buried in Syria??
Yet another sick islamist....
by KavehV (not verified) on Thu Jun 19, 2008 01:50 AM PDTHe was among the first (pre-revolution) mentaly sick, or psychopathic Islamist ideologue (as most are) with a particularly murderous tone. This is a slogan of his that I remember from 70's:
"Agar mitavani bemir, ya agar nemitavani bemiran", or something close to this.
A Great man?
by Mani 321 (not verified) on Wed Jun 18, 2008 08:25 PM PDTRoughly translated, at the end of the video Shariati states that "there is no one more dispicable than the Iranian who prides himself in the pre-Islamic history of Iran". Had he been alive today, Shariati, it seems, would have been an ardent supporter of the Sivand Damn and the destruction of pre-Islamic historic sites. I know little about the man and I don't want to judge him pre-maturely. But I would have to give close attention to his writings before praising him as an Iranian hero.
He was a Mullah too!
by Anonymous8888 (not verified) on Wed Jun 18, 2008 08:16 PM PDTHe was a backward writer in love with the backward arab religion. You just need to read his book "fatmeh fatmeh ast" then you will see that he was not better than all those IRI's Mullahs. If he was alive today he would for sure join MKO in Iraq or wear an Amameh and .....

by samsam1111 on Wed Jun 18, 2008 06:02 PM PDT(khoda rahmatesh koneh) belongs to a specific elitists who helped to take "IR" the "Aryan heritage" from the name "Iran" and replace it with "IR" the "Islamic Republic"...Original & Infuential ? probably yes!!. Iranian? uhmmmm History will judge...I read 1 of his books in high school (Horr, battle of Karbala), it sounds like a sermon.
Just a mulla...
by Anonymous Azad (not verified) on Wed Jun 18, 2008 05:18 PM PDTThis guy was a mulla like any other mulla of him time that was considered open-minded and a saint and sympathizing for people when they were not in power. Only that he did not survive long enough to prove that he was yet another Doctor Yazdi.
