NIAC president Trita Parsa mc'd and Stephen Kinzer was keynote speaker at NIAC fund raiser in Los Gatos, California Oct 23rd 2011.
Two of the three Evin hikers were there and they had two interesting points to make:
1.) they were awestruck by the incredible courage of their Iranian prisoners in Evin.
2.) they were awestrick by the amount of sympathy that the Iranian people and Iranian Americans have shown them since their release.

You are all missing the point
by Brian Appleton on Sat Oct 29, 2011 12:32 AM PDTto the 11 trolls who have seized on the wrong point about the hikers. Obviously the fact that they were hiking in a war zone in a border area defies logic and is such an obvious mistake it doesn't bare comment and I did not even attempt to ask them why they were there. Whether they were tortured or not is irrelevant although I wonder who of these armchair critics would survive 14 months in solitary confinement. They weren't talking about themselves or celebrating their media celebrity, they were trying to help the Iranian American community on this tour. The points they made were about the bravery of the Iranian political prisoners all around them in Evin who said this was their form of protest and who tried to comfort the hikers by talking and singing to them through the walls. The point was the kindness of the Iranian people and of the Iranian Americans who offered them sympathy after their release.
I would like to add that I often explain to non Iranians that the IRI is not really spiritual or religious but rather the millions of rules and restrictions are all profit opportunities. When they hold an American hostage for two years who is obviously not a spy this is to get the amount of the bail up to the maximum. It is extortion just as the temporary marriage licenses are extortion of prostitution...as long as the IRI is getting its proportional cut all things are possible in Iran. No one is apologizing for the excesses and wrong doings of the IRI. Take off your poisoned glasses and see the world in a more positive light my friends...life is too short to spend it fighting like crabs in a pot pulling anyone who tries to rise up back down so we can all be equally miserable...that is the dictatorship of the proletariot which is as bad as the dictatorship of the top 1%....Brian H. come on now. don't you have 5 minutes (or 24 hours) to find out which niaci made the inflitrator comment about the hikers and now he has a wedding in you know where about the union of hikers and niac. be ghole rashtia "in hojb o hayaatete ke mano koshteh." :D

Hamsade Ghadimi - you said what/when?
by MM on Wed Oct 26, 2011 11:28 AM PDTI could not help finding out whether you ALWAYS called the hikers as clueless, as your response to me suggested. Here is what I found: From accidental tourists gathering information on Evin (Sep 26) to clueless spoiled brats in this thread! Any other time you called these hikers as clueless, and was it always "always"?

esfand, i think the apologists for iri have to tow the line and say what they are paid to say. you won't get them to engage in an open, honest and critical manner. if iri had any evidence that these three were spies, they would have presented it. end of story.
the ironic part is that these accidental tourists ended up gathering more information, by residing in evin, than they set out on their hike. also, that none of these apologists want to engage in a conversation about the screams the hikers heard in evin.

by Ramin J on Tue Oct 25, 2011 07:15 PM PDT...that NIAC is the most respectable Iranian-American organization and that they clearly are not with the regime.
A friend at the event told me that one of the hikers said that they showed up to thank NIAC for all the support they had given to them and their families throughout their ordeal.
That is pretty cool - I dont know any other Iranian-American group that was involved in helping them.
One more reason to be proud of NIAC!

Faramarz
by MM on Tue Oct 25, 2011 06:22 PM PDTI still say these hikers were reckless and probably dumb to go on hiking at the border of Iran-Iraq, and I do not think that VPK said anything different. It is just that the same ones who were shedding crocodile tears when these kids were in Evin, turned on them when they showed up at a NIAC function. And, this turn-around was also seen when Shirin Ebadi or Maziar Bahar..... had a NIAC chat. That is hypocracy. Don't you think so?
I'm outa here.
There was Once a Boy who Cried Oy Oy!
by Faramarz on Tue Oct 25, 2011 05:58 PM PDTHere is what he said about the hikers on September 21st.
But now they are his heroes!
"Faramarz,
Now to your question of what I have against them. I have a lot against them:
resent it. Because IRI got a freebie it did not deserve. At the cost of
USA.
Is this enough"
Here is what Faramarz says.
"There was once a boy
Who always cried oy oy
When someone touched his toy
He just wanted attention
From Billy, Bob and Roy
He didn't make much sense
But was always coy
At the end we all ignored him
Like a bad serving of Buck Choy!"

Expect to see these guys in many Iran related functions
by Anahid Hojjati on Tue Oct 25, 2011 01:34 PM PDTAfter spending some time in Iranian prison, they probably have their career set for them. There is a good chance that for years, they will want to be associated with Iran for fame, fortune, and if they have real concerns for fate of it. Therefore, don't be surprised to see them in all kinds of Iran related functions.
