Forget petrol. This is sheer DIESEL power. Vin Diesel’s magnetic power. Plus the gorgeous cars. The races. The speed. It is raw adrenalin pumping. Whoosh! What more can anyone want?
I absolutely adore Diesel. And I love cars. The faster the better. This flick couldn’t have released at a better time. Diesel (Mark Sinclair Vincent) was there in the first The Fast And The Furious (2001), the first in the series, that made us go gaga over the brute power of his muscular body and mastery over cars. After that first viewing, I haven’t got over my addiction.
Diesel was not seen in the next two – 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) and The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) – over money row with Universal studios. These two flicks were only half the fun sans him. We missed him (that’s the understatement). Universal realised its folly and Diesel was seen at the very end of Tokyo Drift. I almost hit the roof with joy. There was hope that he will be right there in the next.
And of course, he is right here. His mere presence lights the screen. Watch out for the exploding opening scene. That is sheer delight for the eyes. You will not believe what you see. You will view it again and again. See in on “Youtube”. It is a huge rage there as of now. That is Diesel power. This is first class action. It will leave you asking for more.
Formula racing is nothing new. But what adds fun to it is sleek cars racing at speeds not seen on roads usually. The street racing leaves us gasping for more.
The plot takes over from the first movie. After hijacking fuel tanks on the highways of the Dominican Republic, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) leaves his girlfriend Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and his gang. In Panama, his sister Mia (Jordana Brewster) tells him of Letty’s murder.
Dom returns to Los Angeles, California. At Letty’s accident scene, he is led to David Park, who tells him only through a street race by Ramon Campos (John Ortiz) can he find Letty's murderer. Brian O'Connor (Paul Walker), an FBI agent, has to find drug lord Arturo Braga. He also is led to David Park.
Both Dom and Brian go to the underground entrance race that makes them a team member to traffic heroin across the United States-Mexico border. Dom wins the race. Brian gets one of Braga's members arrested and takes his place on team.
Campos, Braga's right hand man meet them. Dom confronts a racer Fenix (Laz Alonso), the car driver that collided with Letty’s car before killing her.
Dom and Brian are sent to the Mexican border to receive drugs. They are to follow Fenix's lead. Drivers after trafficking are killed to avoid payoff. Letty was the only driver to get away. But the pursuit led to her death. Dom anticipating this explodes his car.
Brian and Dom head back to the U.S. where Brian arranges to exonerate Dom. An exchange is made with Campos, provided Braga delivers the money personally. Dom and Brian now realize Campos is indeed Braga.
Braga evades capture and flees. Brian and Dom chase him and take him to the US. Dom kills Fenix. FBI catches both Braga and Dom.
Dom is tried for his crimes and is sent to prison. The movie ends with Brian, Mia, and Dom's gang racing towards the prison bus to break him out. Dom presumably breaks out, as he is seen racing Sean in the end of Tokyo Drift.
Story line is OK but it is the car racing that is breathtaking. The two girls set the screen to fire in their minis. Brian Tyler has composed the scores. Does It Offend You’s “We Are Rockstars” and Soulja Boys Tell ‘Em’s “Crank Dat” (Travis Barker remixed version) add to the mood. “Blanco”, “Crazy” and “Bad Girls” too rock. “G-Stro” is also featured.
Watch the movie only for Diesel. Of course, for car racing too. All the Bollywood flicks released in the last three months won’t match the finesse of this one. Go for it only to feast on the gentle giant Diesel and the action that follows.
Should I say any more? Go! Just go!
