To my American cousins only
by anglophile on Tue Jun 07, 2011 03:23 PM PDTAnd you guys call this an intellectual debate?!
You guys in the States must be so intellectually malnourished that you find this intellectually rewarding. This was just like stupid chat show in which the audience force themselves to laugh. Compared to a British chatshow it sounds like a f***t in a space suit (look how Angie Dickenson is laughing out loud:
Thanks for sharing
by Mahvash Shahegh on Tue Jun 07, 2011 09:10 AM PDTWOW!!!! Finally after so long, I watched an intellectual, literary and meaningful conversation! Thank you, Dariush for posting it. Delam baaz shod!
@Simorgh
by Azarin Sadegh on Mon Jun 06, 2011 01:00 PM PDTUnlike you, I found these videos super funny and these authors seem totally down to earth and in some points so out of their comfort zone!! For example, in the second video, Irving is hilarious while stuttering over the question on literature's interest in dysfunctional individual or families!!
If this interview and these people are boring and pretentious then what isn't?
Pretentious and boring.
by Simorgh5555 on Mon Jun 06, 2011 12:43 PM PDTPretentious and boring.
Tasteful, Witty and Zytunghaufen at the same time

Darius jan,
by Azarin Sadegh on Mon Jun 06, 2011 12:27 PM PDTI totally get you...I'm also like you! I get mad instantly and throw a tantrum, but minutes later I've already forgotten why!
I hope you would accept my formal apology for my lack of caring! I know I am a total ignorant in certain areas...Yes! I am so aware of most of my shortcomings (but not all and sometimes I insist to stay in denial) and so I can only count on friends like you to help me discover and fix myself as much as possible :-)
Azarin
this is a great post, dk
by humanbeing on Mon Jun 06, 2011 12:27 PM PDTit has many of the things that interest me; nafisi is great (and azarin, you can have orhan he's all yours, nafisi can have hers, i'm taking nabokov and plato), and there are no families or friendships without 'dysfunction' -- and certainly no good belles lettres without it!
Glad You enjoyed it Azarin Jaan ;0)
by Darius Kadivar on Mon Jun 06, 2011 11:45 AM PDTGood to see you back too.

PS: Les Meilleurs Amis ... Surtout quand ils sont Intellectuels ... se fâchent souvent mais jamais pour longtemps ... Je t'embrasse de Paris !
I LOVE this conversation...and I love Nafisi
by Azarin Sadegh on Mon Jun 06, 2011 11:34 AM PDTI guess I am all for being in bed with great authors like these guys! Franzen and Irving are phenomenal writers of our time (of course they're not as sexy as Orhan Pamuk ..:-)
Azar Nafisi is deliciously funny and smart. I can't love her more...
Thank you so much for sharing, dear Darius!
