The Baader Meinhof Complex (TRAILER)

Germany in the 1970s: Murderous bomb attacks, the threat of terrorism and the fear of the enemy inside are rocking the very foundations of the yet fragile German democracy. German Cinema's Oscar Bid tells the story of the genesis of the most radical Terror Group of the 1970's that of the Baader Meinhoff whose origin was indirectly linked to the Shah of Iran's 1968 visit to West Berlin.

German Cinema has made a noticeable comback in recent years and won the Oscar for Best Foreign film for the LIFE OF OTHERS in 2007 which was also a depiction of an era in East German History that of the Stasi the secret services of Soviet Run East Germany.

It should be noted that Moritz Bleibtreu (who played Persian King Malik Shah in Kayvan Mashayekh's The Keeper The Legend of Omar Khayyam ) plays Andreas Baader and Martina Gedeck ( who also played in LIFE OF OTHERS ) is cast as Ulrike Meinhof.

The film takes an uncompromising look on the most notoriously violent terrorist group of the 1970's and the lost generation born from the very heart of Former Nazi Germany. Interestingly the film starts with the visit of Iran's Royal Couple to West Berlin in 1967 which led to confrontation between Pro Shah Students and Left Wing Revolutionaries during which a German Student Benno Ohnesorg was killed by a German Policeman. This triggered what became known as West Germany's Summer Revolution of 67 (France was to also see a similar Revolution a year later known as Mai '68 but in reaction to General De Gaulle's Presidency and generational crisis of the late 60's). The film also explores the groupe's trainings and activities in PLO Camps in the Middle East and the cultural gaps with their "Arab colleagues" that appear during their stay as well as the links between Baader Meinhof members and Islamic Fundamentalist Terror Groups of the time.

Journalist and mother of two children, Ulrike Meinhof, interviewed in 1970 Before Joining the Terror Group (She was the "Intellectual" who is said to have masterminded the political motivations behind the Terror acts)

Documentary Narrated by Ulrike Meinhof herself (Still a neutral journalist) on Shah's visit and death of Benno Ohnesorg. (The incident made Meinhof to write a pamphlet entitled Open Letter to Farah Diba in which she slandered the Iranian Royalty of "being insensitive to the plight of the poor people of Iran" ):

Capture of Andreas Baader in Frankfurt 1972

Baader & Ensslin Firebombing and Trial

The Televised Trial was an oppurtunity for the Terrorist to Seduce the Media to their cause:

PLOT:

"Germany in the 1970s: Murderous bomb attacks, the threat of terrorism and the fear of the enemy inside are rocking the very foundations of the yet fragile German democracy. The radicalised children of the Nazi generation lead by Andreas Baader, Ulrike Meinhof and Gudrun Ensslin are fighting a violent war against what they perceive as the new face of fascism: American imperialism supported by the German establishment, many of whom have a Nazi past. Their aim is to create a more human society but by employing inhuman means they not only spread terror and bloodshed, they also lose their own humanity. The man who understands them is also their hunter: the head of the German police force Horst Herold. And while he succeeds in his relentless pursuit of the young terrorists, he knows he's only dealing with the tip of the iceberg."

Current events in Iran represents the opposition of the "people" against much of the "unelected" establishment, i.e., Guardian Council, vaalie faghih, etc.

The same institutions that you have defended again and again.

PinoQ, how does it feel to watch the TV and see millions of demonstrators? Did you feel threatened by them? What do "they" feel about a cyber Basiji like you?

How does it feel to be faced off against millions?

There are more questions for you to comtemplate on. I will share them with you at my leisure.

MON Q ;0)

by Darius Kadivar on

That is because you can't Read ! Did You Notice the "IF"

Sentance from the Paragraph in Question you Refer too:

I have clearly said before that I never approved the SAVAK violence nor did I say that I approved the incident in Berlin( For I believe in Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Demonstration) nor did I ever consider that the Shah was a Democrat BUT Go See the Movie first and believe me IF the SAVAK, like the German Secret Police arrested some of these bastards (*) in their respective countries I can say that they were right.

(*) The "Bastards" in question refer to the Terrorists and their fellow Terrorist colleagues in the Middle East but then you clearly have Not seen the Movie ! And if you think the MKO or Fedayeen Khalge or even Khamenei arrested by the SAVAK were BoyScouts you are clearly mis informed.

I encourage you to Go and see the Movie First and then we can have a Mature Debate amongst Adults on this issue !

Q

Thanks DK

You just lied about me!!!

Why do you accuse me of "justifying" the violence? Old habits die hard? Why do you accuse me of saying you approve of SAVAK's CIA-made torture?

the SAVAK, like the German Secret Police arrested some of these bastards in their respective countries I can say that they were right.

Arrested? maybe. Luckily this is not the case. They killed and tortured. And now we both agree they were not right.

Good Luck with Your Book MON Q !

by Darius Kadivar on

So ?

YOU JUST PROVED MY POINT ! ;0)

Regardless of their anger against their own governments How does that comment by the Shah (a Foreign dignitary whose words were even probably quoted out of context by some journalist who claims to have heard it)  justify the Violence of the Baader Meinhoff ? Do you find excuses for Terrorism against civilians ?

I have clearly said before that I never approved the SAVAK violence nor did I say that I approved the incident in Berlin( For I believe in Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Demonstration) nor did I ever consider that the Shah was a Democrat BUT Go See the Movie first and believe me IF the SAVAK, like the German Secret Police arrested some of these bastards in their respective countries I can say that they were right. Some of them are running the regime in Iran today others were members of the MKO or Fedayeen Khalg to say the least.

TERRORISM IS BLIND JUST LIKE THE HAMAS WAS YESTERDAY AND WILL BE (UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE) TOMORROW AND THOSE WHO LIKE YOU NAIVELY SUPPORT IT TODAY  WILL PROBABLY TOMORROW  FIND JUSTIFICATIONS FOR THEIR ACTS OR THAT OF ANY OTHER TERRORIST GROUP IF THEY LAUNCH ATTACKS ON EUROPEAN OR AMERICAN SOIL IN THE NAME OF THE HAMAS' VICTIMS IN GAZA CAUSED BY THE ISRAELIAN DISPROPORTIONATE ATTACK !

May Wisdom on this Issue Prevail My Dear Friend !

Good Luck with Your Book !

Don't worry DK, I'm sure they were all paid by IRI

To make the Shah look bad. This is intereting reading:

In the melee, a twenty-six year-old man, Benno Ohnesorg, was shot and killed by a police sergeant, Heinz Kurras. Ohnesorg, whose wife was pregnant, joined the demonstration telling friends that he thought it would be fun. In a country with no shortage of political strife during the previous six and half decades of the twentieth century, Germany was set to write a new chapter in its history of political horror. The Savak of the Middle East was about to awaken a sleeping nest of European hornets.

A shaken Mayor Albertz attended a Mozart opera, The Magic Flute, with the Shah. When the opera finished, the streets had been cleared and the mayor and the Shah left without incident. The next morning a shaken Mayor Albertz asked the Shah if he had heard about the death of Ohnesorg. He replied that he had but the mayor shouldn't make much of it for that kind of thing happened every day in Iran.[7]

Incidently, I'm doing some research into 20th century Terrorisms. I hope to publish something on it soon.
